I created litter boxes for Mr. Rabbit such that he is about 4-5 inches off the litter bed and has no access to it. He is unable to dig in it, eat it, or scatter it. I clean the litter box outside and fill it with new litter outside such that no dust or anything is inhaled for making a mess inside.
My questions is, is cat litter and/or clumping litter really unsafe if the bunny has no contact with it in any way? I’ve done a lot of research and everything says that litters are unsafe if bunny ingests, digs, or inhales litter particles but in my case Mr. Rabbit would be completely blocked off from that.
I have a kitty who’s litter box lives outside and has walnut shell litter in it which I love. Mr. Rabbit does not go near it and I monitor him closely when he’s on the patio.
I’d really like to use it in his box as keeps down the odors and mess but of course I do not want to cause him any harm.
