I noticed that in most of the pics I have seen on here that you guys use regular litter pans for the buns.

I use one from petsmart that has a wire top over the pan. Do any of you guys use  one like that?

I bought that same one because Archie was digging in his litter but he didn’t seem to interested in it but I might try it again because we bought that equine pine for bedding and he dug at it this morning and since it turns into sawdust it was everywhere!  The lil’ bugger!    It seems a little small for him though, but if he keeps digging we’re going to try it again.

I dont think it would be big enough for my buns. Does your bun like it?

My Bunny definately likes it. When he had a regular litter box he was not eclusively using it. I think it was too close to his bed and other areas and he did not get that it was THE place to go potty.. only. But I also like it because he doesn’t have to stand on his litter stuff.
I wipe the wire with some cage cleaner when I empty the pan.
It is quite small though. Even for my little guy. I have never seen one made for a larger bunny either.

many of us use regular cat litterboxes b/c they are cheap (usually not more than 5 bucks for the medium size ones) and larger than ones made specifically for critters. if your bun is a digger, some people have made home-made grates out of wire cooling racks or other items. some buns will go over the grates, but other buns need the “litter feel” underneath them to know where to do their business. what matters is that you’ve found something that works well for you.

I might try a grate over Charmin’s litter box because that is how his litter box was at his previous home. He also dug in it today and made a mess on the floor. Thanks for the idea. If I can’t find a grate to cover it I will buy one of these.

I noticed it comes in two sizes, the biggest being 12″x8″. Make sure you’ve bought the bigger one. I just googled, and the 2 other brands are the same size and style.

Check the cat supplies aisle for covered cat pans too. They tend to be rectangular. Just make sure the wire bottom isn’t too large int he holes or abrasive. You don’t want Crayon to get sore hocks from wire. Sounds like you’re doing fine with what you have though. Just check Crayon’s feet once in a while and watch for red patches. That’s sore hocks. Mini Rexes are prone to it.

I have seen those- and I like the design and style- but I dislike the size- even of the largest one is only an appropriate size for my smallest bunny- a Holland Lop at 3 1/4lbs.

I wish they made them bigger- but because they make rabbit cages in general too small- I think they make too small litterboxes to fit in them.

I agree that the pans are pretty tiny. Almost all bunny supplies at the pet store is too small. And I have a mini!
All the nest boxs are too small too. So my bunny has a cat bed as his sleepy spot. He loves it.

Oh and just to clear things up.. My rabbits name is Bunny. I am Crayon. I only wish I had named my guy something cute like that. But
his name is Bunny and now he is stuck with it! Sometimes he is Funny Bunny or Fun Bun.

I saw this on a breeder website the other day.  It’s shallow, but the whole thing can be put inside the average cat litter box.  Also saw a grated box in the fodder store…..I think they are becoming more popular.

I use a dishtub from the dollar store – it’s cheap and it’s what they used at the shelter Pepper came from.

I got the covered litterpan from petsmart today. I think it is plenty big enough for my boy. It is 16 inches. It comes in two sizes 12 inches and 16 inches. I got the larger one. I hope it works well. He kept getting nasty stuff stuck in his long hair.

We have tried covered cat litter boxes but apparently all of the buns prefer to be social while they potty so they didn’t work out well. lol Otherwise they would all have covered litter boxes.

I just buy cheap large cat litter boxes so that after a few months if they stain or wont come clean I pitch and get a new one. My babies all love to lounge and take naps in their litter boxes so they have to be large.

The have large cat litter boxes at the Dollar Store for like $2 bucks each so with 4 buns that is a nice cheap box.
