        Hi there,

Apologies if this has been raised before but I’m new to this and struggled to find many answers.

Living in the UK as a first time bunny mum I’m finding it very difficult to find a variety of stimulating toys and effective care products for my little baby.

I am currently struggling to find a litter screen as I am having terrible trouble with Dusty’s new litter digging habits. I just spent £20 on a covered litter box with a door which he absolutely loves but despite the box being extra large he still manages to wedge his butt between the door and kick all the litter out. I honestly don’t know if he does this on purpose or if this happens because he doesn’t bother going inside the box properly before he starts digging. I can’t express how much of a mess he makes. The litter can be found half way across the room! We have carpet too so I am concerned about the carpet becoming smelly.

He never used to have this problem and was great with using his box but we had to put him in a bunny hotel when we went on holiday. The bunny hotel was great but they had sawdust in his habitat and didn’t use the litter tray we left. Now, he still pees and poops in the litter tray but loves to dig out all the litter. He will then pee in the corner with no litter and come out with soaking wet feet which then goes all over my carpet. I desperately need help!

The litter screen you can buy from binkybunny.com looks perfect but they don’t ship to the UK. Does anyone know of any alternative products I can buy in the UK or online? I have read about the use of egg crates but I’m worried this might hurt his feet? He also eats EVERYTHING including plastic so i need to be careful what I put in the litter box. I did think about changing his litter from the wood pellets to care fresh but I am concerned he will try eat that.

Any advice, tips or a list of online stores would be much appreciated from this 1st time bunny Mum

One of our forum leaders uses plastic knitting mesh for her rabbit. It it were cut large enough and wedged into the box, would he leave it alone do you think? I find if they can’t get to edges, they’re less likely to destroy things like that.

You could look for some galvanised mesh (sometimes called hardwire cloth) and make your own screen. It just wouldn’t have the nice edges like the ones in the store here.

Thanks so much for your help! That’s really useful. I will try find some knitting mesh tomorrow and supervise him to make sure he doesn’t start pulling up the edges. If that doesn’t work I’ll try the galvanised mesh. Just knowing the correct name for these materials has really helped too. I got a few odd looks at the DIY store today when I was trying to explain what I needed.
