Ok so I know there are soooo many about littler and I am sorry if something has been posted already! I posted another thread about my girl peeing outside of her litter box and people mentioned not having the bedding on the floor of thier cage. I currently use Carefresh in both the litter box and on the floor of the cage, and am looking to switch out the bedding on the bottom for something else, or some type of safe pad or some other kind of bedding. Does anyone have any reccomendations? Theres a metal pan on the bottom of the cage that is being eroded cause of her pee! eww

I would put the litter box with the carefresh in the spot where she has been peeing. For the rest of the cage, don’t put “bedding” at all. You can cover the floor with a piece of fleece or something similar. I picked up a couple of tight woven cotton rugs at the goodwill and I use those. They are easy to wash and I just switch them out so Diego always has something soft and clean to sit on.
Even when your bun is completely litter trained it will probably leave a couple little poos around. I clean up the randoms that are in her cage and throw them in the litter pan to remind her that the box is the place to go. Buns really like to have a clean house and will appreciate having a spot to do their business.
Also– for pee accidents use vinegar to clean it up– it breaks down any deposit and gets rid of the smell.

I didn’t read the other post so sorry if this is all repetitive

You could always try towels or cheap throw blankets to line the bottom of the cage… that way, when it’s soiled you can pop it into the washer and put another one down until their litter habits are secured and you can put a rug down for them

I use towels for Remy in his cage and Yesterday’s News litter for his litter boxes. Works really well, and it easy to clean (and easy on my checkbook).

                Good luck!!

I use either cheap fleece blankets or lengths of bulk fleece (from a fabric store).  What I like about fleece is if they nibble on it- it can get a moth-eaten look, but it does not “string”- like towels or some other cotton blankets might.  And the fleece is easy to wash- I just wash all 3 bunnies blankets when I clean their cages- and I have a clean set to replace them with.

I tried towels and they did not work well at all- they got very “snaggy” and thready.  But fleece works great if you are willing to dedicate some fleece blankets to be bunny only.  I have some that I have used for a little over a year and they are still in good enough shape to use again and again.

I will try that, is that bad if they eat it?

I like those 2×3 cotton rugs you can get at Target or Walmart. They are about $4 each and work well for that purpose. I also have a couple of towels that they like to move around and of course, sea grass mats from World Market. Luckily, my bunnies don’t chew them up so quickly, so they last forever.

If you find that your bunny actually eats it instead of just chews holes in it, then yes, you would have to take it away. But only very small percentage of bunnies actually digest cloth bedding.   That doesn’t mean your bunny won’t be part of that small percentage – just try it and supervise to see how the cloth is received.  if i works out fine, I would recommend getting several, especially if litter training is still being worked on so you can keep a rotation of clean ones.
