        Hi everyone!

I’m having some litter box issues with my bunny and I’ve run out of ideas! From day 1 my bunny was using the litter box consistently which I am very thankful for. However, every time he goes in the litter box he kicks the litter everywhere! But of course not only the litter goes everywhere, but his poop too! It’s almost as bad as if he never used the litter box in the first place because I need to constantly clean up the floor around it. Only then, after kicking all the litter out of the way, will he actually go to the bathroom. By this point he is peeing/pooping in an empty tray so his feet get all gross!

I have tried 2 different kinds of litter/bedding and 2 different boxes and he reacted the same way to all of them. He will even go as far as to pick up the litter and throw it out of the box with his mouth. He doesn’t want it in there so bad! It’s like he wants to pee on himself! I don’t understand why he’s doing this. He will also scratch and bite at the bottom of the box after all the litter has been kicked out.

I’ve had a rabbit in the past but she never did anything like this! I have no clue what to do! If anyone has experienced this before and found a solution please help me out! Thanks!

        – Nicole

(ps- he has been checked out by a vet recently who said he was 100% healthy and his poop/pee has been normal)

What kinds of litter have you used? Besides hormonal behaviour, he could be doing this because he doesn’t like the smell of it or the texture under his feet.

You could try making a grate for the box so he doesn’t stand in the litter and can’t kick it out as well.
