So I have 4 rabbits, 2 are fixed and 2 are not. one is scheduled to be in april….they are all just about PERFECT in their litter boxes in their pens!  Very few accidents and it’s never a wet accident.  My problem happens is that they picked a corner when they are out (separately) to pee in!  Reading up on this issue it was suggested that we put a litter box in that location which we did but 2 out of 4 will not use the litter box but choose to go right next to the litter box!  Both pee and poop!  I’ve cleaned it with oxy clean, regular (but safe for animals) carpet cleaner, descenting sprays but nothing is helping!  Does anyone have any suggestions to save my carpeting??  I clean the poop up and put it in the litter box so its not like they don’t know what its there for…any ideas??  Thanks!!!

Maybe try one bigger litterbox in the room or 2 side by side. Which of the 2 are not using it outside their pens? The unfixed ones? It could be due to this or if one of the unfixed one is using this box, perhaps the urine smell is too off putting to some of the others.

Sometimes, even Jack, who is normally is perfect, will sometimes just decide to go in another area. I have a few tricks that seem to work (if they don’t then I do a litterbox refresher and start from square one by confining running room.

But before I take that route here are my tricks.

            1. Jack doesn’t like the box when it’s first been cleaned.(Rucy was just the opposite), anyway, for Jack I just make sure that when i do clean it his box, that I put back into some urine soaked bits of litter and some poop.
            2. I cut up his favorite treat into tiny tiny little bits and basically spread in the litterbox to entice him in.
            3. I get plastic placemats, cut them in half and the curve up three of the sides so that the urine will stay on the placemat on not leak over the side. I keep once side down, otherwise he’ll go outside of the placemat. but you just lift it up a bit by folding up a paper towel sheet and putting underneath in such a way that it will angle the mat the way you want it to keep the urine in.

I know when he urinates and poops, and during this time, I try to stick around those times so I can scoot him back to his litterbox the moment he goes in the wrong place.

Keep us updated on what works for you.

It sounds like that may be a corner that they are all taking turns doing territorial marking in. Have you thought of trying those clear plastic mats that they sometimes put on rugs if you are going to have a rolling office chair on the rug? Do you know what I mean? They are clear plastic and have little pokies on the bottom to keep the mat from sliding around? Then at least if they continue to pee there it will be easier to clean up than if it was on the floor. You could also try to block them from that area somehow, like with NIC cubes or and ex-pen or something like that.
