Hey, it’s me again. Just for background, I adopted a sweet little 10-12 month old bunny from a shelter three weeks ago. At first, he did very well with his litter box. There would be a few stray poops outside of it in his own, but nothing major. I keep his hat in a repurposed shower caddy slightly abouce his box and I put his bowl of pellets in the box in the mornings because he poops a lot while he eats. This worked well. Then I started noticing he was peeing a lot outside his box, especially around the perimeter of his cage, which was annoying to clean up. I just assumed he was marking his territory. Then, a couple days ago, he decided he was just going to start pooping EVERYWHERE. His poop is probably 50% in his litter box and 50% all around his cage, especially, for some reason, on his blanket, which up until a few days ago he NEVER pooped on. I just don’t get it. Is it because I haven’t let him out as much the past two days because I’ve been so busy? He’s neutered so it shouldn’t be hormonal. I don’t really know what to do. Luckily, he’s still not pooping in my room when I let him out, but I’m worried that’s where we’re headed. What should I do?

My rabbits started doing this once they outgrew their litter boxes. Maybe yours is a bit too small? Is he going in one particular spot or all over the room?

The peeing is probably because the litter box is too small, not too sure what the pooping could be. When you see him starting to poop not in his litterbox, herd him to his litterbox so he knows that’s where to go. That helped a great deal with my bun

He hasn’t grown at all and it’s a big box

He could be viewing his whole cage as his litter box. Do you know when he was neutered? If he was only neutered recently it could be residual hormones at play.

Also were there any changes in the house in the past three days? Someone new coming to visit, a change in soap or hand lotion etc. Sometimes a different scent can cause a bunny to want to mark territory all over again.
