I rushed Link to Blue Ridge Vet last night for an emergency appointment because he’s lost control of his back legs. He’s semi-responsive when they’re touched, but can’t balance on them.

Xrays showed no injury and a blood test showed that he’s actually negative for kidney failure (which he was previously thought to have) and that he has high white blood cells and cholesterol. He’s running a fever, so obviously has some form of infection. He’s eating/drinking/pooing/peeing as usual.
Dr Hill decided to treat him for infection and possible EC, just in case. She thinks one or the other is causing swelling along his back. She gave him a steroid injection to reduce swelling, a pain med injection, and gave me Albon and Valbazen. I’m also resuming sub-q fluids.

Today he has a little bit of control – he still can’t walk on his legs, but if I upright him, he can sit for at least a minute at a time, which is a huge progress over yesterday. He also will kind of tread water in air if I pick him up and let his back legs go for a moment (I didn’t do this intentionally), so he seems to have control over.

How can I make him comfortable until he’s back on his feet? He appears to be slipping and slidding on everything right now.

Awww, poor little guy! I would try to keep him on carpet or blankets so he can get his footing a little better. I hope he keeps recovering!

I have him on a sheet at current. I can’t put him down on the carpet (family rules) but I’ll see if I can’t find a raggedy blanket around the house that he can claim as his.

Aww, poor bunny! I think a blanket would be a good idea.

A fleecy blanket is always welcome by my two buns. I hope he is better really soon.

As of tonight, he was able to take 1 hop before toppling. Baby steps! Or hops, as it may be.

Healing vibes! I know it’s hard to watch your bunny struggle. Fast recovery to Link… I hope the meds knock out whatever is causing this.

Poor thing! Let us know how he progresses. When should you expect the results back from the test?
