So, I was able to get Lily an appointment for the 7th of January. The cost came is going to be $135! Woo woo! I’m so happy that it’s pretty inexpensive. And! it’s a vet that I trust. I have to say, I’m really nervous. I have the protective mommy nerves. When it comes to a dog, I’m fine, but it’s my little girl. Haha. Plus, I’ve only had male dogs. They say she gets to come home the same day. I’m so glad. Then I will be more likely to sleep that night. Hee hee.

Is there anything I should do differently when she comes home? Should she stay in her hutch so that she can rest and doesn’t move around too much so her stitches don’t come undone? Are they known for chewing on their stitches? Do you think she’ll be mad that I left her somewhere or will she just be happy to be home? So many questions. haha. You can tell I’m nervous.

        Kayla

*Vibes for an easy spay and quick recovery*

You’ll want to have a clean cage to bring her home to, keep it clean; Have treats ready (like her favorite greens) to keep her eating. Try to limit her movement (don’t let her play out of the cage probably for two days). Keep the environment warm and quiet so she can rest.

Do not leave the vets office without pain meds; Many will try to send you home without them; Just put your foot down and don’t leave without something like metacam. Spays are fairly invasive and they should get a couple of days of help with pain.

If you want to be really prepared, pick up some critical care (usually the vets office sells it) and if you don’t have all night grocery stores or pharmacies (in case it happens at night) pick up some pedialyte and baby food and syringes incase you have to syringe feed and water.

Likely it will all go very smoothly but it makes you feel better to be prepared!

I had issues with Noelle trying to destroy her stitches. Hopefully your vet does the internal type so there’s nothing to grab at! But just in case, you might want to have something on hand to wrap her abdomen with in case she does feel compelled to obliterate her wound. After much trial and error with big fuzzy socks and scarves and leg warmers, I finally found that using an tensor bandage works best. You can adjust the tightness fairly easily and adjust it without anything having to go over bunny’s head. (Once she came out of the groggy phase, Noelle was not happy about socks being shoved over her head!) I even got some gauze padding so that right against the wound the material would be soft, then the tensor bandage around that. Oh – and some medical tape to put over the little metal clip things that hold the bandage on. Don’t want those falling off!

I’ll cross my fingers for you that your bunny has a good surgery and quick recovery! I ditto K&K on the pain meds. Noelle didn’t get any, so I think she thought the stitches were causing her pain, and not just holding her insides in. ~sigh~
