I wouldn’t put any lights in or attached to the condo itself.
I agree with the power strip, though I’ve found perfectly good ones for much less than $20 at a dollar store, or similar cheap supply stores, like Ace Hardware or Walmarts.
One lighting option that works very well for general illumination is a floor lamp that is open at the top so the bulb is exposed to the ceiling. They kind of look like a tall pole with a saucer at the top. I have gotten one for as little as $12 at Walmart or Target. You want bounced lighting. That’s when the light shines onto the ceiling, or a desk lamp is pointed at a wall, and the light bounces off the flat surface. It makes a much larger area in the room light up, but softly. Even a 40 watt bulb in a pole or desk lamp bounced that way will draw very little electricity if left on, burn cool and illuminate the room.
I figure a $15 pole or desk lamp, $3 power strip or multiple socket, and a buck for a bulb, and you’re done for $20.
