My sweet little bunny has taken up licking the bars of my other rabbit’s cage. I will shoo him away from there only to have him return after a minute or two. I can’t imagine why he would be licking the bars, except it is right below where the water bottle is on that cage. It’s gross though. The other rabbit never did anything like that. Both rabbits are boys, this one is not neutered yet though. Thoughts?

There’s all kinds of reasons why a rabbit would lick cage bars. It’s possible that a treat or some tasty food fell there at some point. He also might just like the cool cage bars. It’s also possible that he likes the other rabbit’s scent (or another scent), so he feels a need to lick something that smells like it. One other thing I thought of, is that it might just be bunny hormones – especially considering that he’s not neutered.

One of my rabbits used to constantly lick just about everything. As he got older, he stopped licking so much and started snuggling more. I’m pretty sure that he still had some strong rabbit hormones going through him, even though he was neutered a while before we got him

Mr. Bun-Bun licks everything. Everything in his cage, my face, my friends, my shirt, the coffee table, the floor, my purse, the refrigerator door, etc. Tonight he did something new, he pulled all the papers off my table one by one, and then started licking some of them. I really have no idea why he’s such a licker.
I don’t think that your rabbit is gross for licking the cage bars, as long as they’re clean with vinegar or another natural cleanser there’s no problem. Maybe some rabbits get sensory input from licking along with smell. At this moment Mr. Bun-Bun is licking my purse.

Bing does the same thing. I always feel like I’m getting a pedicure lol! He also licks my dirty laundry. Its the grossest thing ever. I have to bo really dilligent about making sure I leave no clothes on the floor so he won’t lick anything. His favorite things are my socks.

He doesn’t really lick anything else, at least nothing that I have noticed. If you’re holding him though, he does seem to like to chew on zippers. Maybe he is just liking the smell of the other rabbit. Oddly, he doesn’t lick or groom him at all. Hmmm..

I guess since I think of my bunny as my child I would never want my human child to lick my dirty socks. And I wouldn’t want to like them either… But strangely, I don’t find them eat thier poop gross.. Huh. lol

I’m with MB – not sure why everyone thinks it’s gross? Otto’s favorite things to lick are one of our leather couches and anything cardboard. Oh, and sometimes people’s noses, if they’re lucky 🙂
