Can lettuce cause poopy butt?

This is probably just coincidence for me and Lolli.  I haven’t had lettuce for her all weekend.  Yes, I know it’s bad, but I literally have no money.  So it’s been 3 days and she hasn’t had any poopy butt while she’s been having some off and on for the past few weeks.   Since she’s been having problems, I’ve cut back on her treats.  I did give her a lot today (compared to one or 2 two or so times a day) so we’ll see what happens in the next day or so.  lol

But how plausible is it that lettuce could cause the poopy butt?    Are there certain kinds that can cause it more than others?    I know this is probably all coincidence.  I have expected all weekend to wake up to the poopy butt smell.  lol

Yep. Some can, iceberg is known for it. But some rabbit will just be sensitive to certain veg too. I think all of MimzMum’s crew can tolerate lettuce. Particularly her mini rex. Also, any produce can have bacteria that might cause an upset, but lettuce is the veg that spoils fast but can be contaminated from time to time. (Not trying to scare you!) So it’s important we wash the greens before feeding them or eating them ourselves.
What type was it?  I’ve heard of romaine and even herbs like parsley and cilantro causing it in some sensitive rabbits.

If she’s been having trouble with poopy butt, it might be something else but the lettuce just triggered a bout. You can clear up this with diet sometimes but if it keeps occuring, she’ll probably need a fecal test done.

It’s not bad!  The 2 or however many cups a day is an ideal diet but not always a realistic one 365 days a year. You do what you can do. Actually, just hay for her at the moment is probably not a bad thing.
If you find it hard to supply greens sometimes, have a go at growing some wheat grass or orchard grass in a pot. (i.e. potted plant lol).  I’ve supplemented the greens with roses, rose leaves & violet leaves from the garden and willow I’ve picked locally because I was running low on bought veg.

Lettuce can, but in my experience, and with the experience of other members of RA, its usually treats and fruits that causes it more often. Stop giving in to her little face begging for more treats, she doesn’t need many

Often a change in diet can be a cause of poopy butt, so if you didn’t give her the lettuce she’s used to (and iceberg should never be given. No lettuce is better than iceberg.) and changed up her snacks as food, the combination can upset her digestion. A few days of fresh water, unlimited hay, and basic pellets (not too many-1/4 cup daily is enough) can put her right again. But if you’re switching to cheaper brands of pellets and hays there could be stuff that is not going doing well in them and that may be adding to the problem.

You can’t afford to buy a head of romaine or leafy lettuce? Or a bunch of carrots with tops? If you’re having financial trouble meeting basic staples for her life, then it may be time to seriously look at how you are going to budget for her needs in the next few years. (If it’s just an unexpected expense threw your budget off this week, like a car repair, that’s not such an issue if you’re going to be back on track in a couple of days.)

I know, I know. But it’s sooooo hard! LOL When I’m strong about it, she only gets 1 or 2 pieces of the gerber mini fruits (freezed dried fruits with no added anything) a DAY. Yesterday I was really weak. lol

Rabbitpam – I haven’t gotten a short term disability check since the last week in October cause of glitches on the part of my doctor and Metlife. I am trying to borrow money from either of my parents this week so I can buy some groceries. Normally feeding her lettuce is not an issue. I just have no money right now.

And she never gets iceberg. I don’t even eat iceberg. lol

Try 1 gerber mini fruit split in half per day… She’s gonna hate us.

Edit: . Heck, those things are small.(Just looked at them online)  Scrap my advice above.

Jerseygirl – yes, they are small. Which is why I like them as a treat. I feel like I’m actually giving her a substantial treat and she’s just happy to get it. If that makes any sense. We love our pets and want to just feed them treats galore, so the mini fruits work out great for me. Plus a LOT less sugar than raisins. Their size and no added anything makes them good treats.

Still, only give her a couple a day. She definitely doesn’t need more than that. Don’t give in, if you do it will cause more harm than good!

Thought I’d update that Lolli got her lettuce tonite!     and I got my grapes.  lol   My dad gave me some money for groceries. 

And…..I just got mad at her for eating pellets over the lettuce, so I took her bowl away!  LOL  Damn it.  I FINALLY got her lettuce and she’s eating the remainder of her pellets.  Geesh.
