I’m getting concerned for my 11 month old holland lop buck. He has always been an energetic bunny, running around the room, hopping up on boxes. He even managed to perch himself on the window sill a few times. But lately he’s been very lethargic, I open his cage to let him run and he just sits there. He has to be coaxed out and then just sits in the same spot or eats hay from the floor. He doesn’t run or hop on anything, he’s not binkying. Yet, his diet is totally normal. He eats all his morning pellets, he eats a ton of hay and inhales his veggies. He’s pooping and peeing normal. He seems totally healthy but he’s not himself. I though maybe it was a result of his incisor extraction but it’s been a month and he’s not any better. I made a vet appt for a few days from now but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced their bunny going from energetic to lethargic with no signs of illness.

It seems like he’s mellowing out with age. My boys both mellowed out around the 8-10 month marker. They used to run everywhere and were so so hyper. Now they’re both very chilled out. Asriel will still explore a lot and run around, but Bombur is much more of a loaf and is content to just chill on the bed with Hubs and I.

It’s really good that he’s eating and pooping normally. Could he be a little bored? How much time out of his cage does he get and what time of day roughly? I wonder if his sleeping habits have changed a little (due to weather change?) and so he is simply tired when you’re letting him out. Have you tried changing up his environment? Adding some more boxes or something to tempt him to move about and explore?

My rabbit is very similar. He has just lost his partner so he is grieving but he keeps laying around which is odd as he’s clearly very chilled but it’s worrying as I don’t know if it is any other sign. But he is eating normal and pooing like normal. I’ve been adding in new toys and that seems to be working a little but they do tend to chilling out more when they are older. But I swear my little boy has always been lazy, his partner used to do everything even clean his bum!

Fernando (my younger bun, the son of my older bun Panda) seems to be getting lazier this spring, or at any rate developing the same kind of take-it-easy personality as his mom. He’s now over a year old, to my best estimate (he was born in late January 2017).He’s lately decided that the litterbox is his favorite place to sleep, and with the “spring forward” in daylight hours, he often takes his ease there or some other comfy place in the early evening hours when the sun is still shining brightly. He perks up when it gets darker, though, eats as normal (particularly hay) and reacts to treats as enthusiastically as ever. He loafs and bunny-rugs a LOT (he was sleeping yesterday afternoon in a perfect classic bunloaf on the upper deck), and flops when he’s feeling especially good!
