I have Leo for over a year.  He’s always hated carrots.  That was something his previous owner told me…Leo doesn’t eat carrots.  So at school, the kids always brought Leo carrots and he wouldn’t eat them.  Last night I put a carrot in the salad for Jessica.  He dug it out and went to town on it.  He wouldn’t let her near it.  I put another in there tonight to see if it was a fluke.  It was the first thing he picked out of his salad.  What the heck!  I’ll NEVER understand bunnies!!!

When it comes to bunny treats – in addition to taste you have to consider the “rareness” factor Anything that the bunnies get a lot, or is offered to them without enough gusto is considered “food” and not “treat.” My bunny Juli is so smart that despite the fact that I only offer Critter Carrots once and awhile, she KNOWS I have an overstock of them, and therefore will not at them anymore because they are not “rare” enough for her treat category. If i decide to leave it on the ground however, she’ll “get to it” eventually (when there aren’t any pellets left)

Carrots should only be given as a treat and only a sliver or two 3x week! Check out Diet under Bunny Info above.

Some bunnies are just that way. I’ve seen several discussions on carrots tonight too…wow. Carrots have a lot of sugar and are basically like a candy bar for bunnies, so moderation with them is a good idea. ; )

My bunnies don’t like carrots at all. I tried a couple times and they act like they’re not even there! oh well.

Carrera would never eat carrots until she was about 4 years old. Not sure what changed her mind. All my other buns liked them from the beginning.

No don’t worry I don’t overfeed carrots…anymore….b/t this site and my vet, I learned that lesson very quickly.  Jessica had turned into a butterball from all the junk I had given her.  At school, we always had a carrot overstock b/c the kids all thought…carrots!  At this point the vet told me that I can give a half a baby carrot every other day to Jessi as a treat.  I sometimes put it hidden in the salad so she can hunt & gather.  That Leo just constantly blows my mind…he’s such a silly rabbit!
