My contact at the local rabbit rescue recommends spring mix salad as a good solution for buns’ daily salad as opposed to having to go through the produce section hunting and pecking for at least 3-4 different veggies. On my last weekly grocery type I took a look at Fresh Express’ spring mix and it does seem to have a good variety of bunny-suitable green leafy vegetables. However, are there better options (Walmart, Costco, etc.) that are cheaper/especially good for and relished by buns? (Fresh Express spring mix costs about $3.49/regular-size bag at my local Food Lion, but there are several other supermarkets nearby including the aforementioned Walmart and Costco.)

I buy spring mix for my bunnies, usually an organic brand like Earthbound Farms, which is often on sale at the store. It’s important to check the date on the package. I only get ones that are at least 5 days away from their date. But even packages that are a week or more away from their use by date usually have some bad pieces in them right from the start, which causes problems. A couple of days after opening the bags or boxes, I sort through all of it and pull out any slimy or wilted pieces. I put all of the good pieces on a paper towel, to be returned to the package later. A lot of pieces will be fine themselves, but they have gotten brown liquid on them from the pieces near  them that have gone bad. That liquid can be rinsed off so that you can save those good pieces. When all the pieces have been removed, with the bad ones discarded, and the good ones on a paper towel, I wipe out the box, then put the good pieces back in.

I buy the Earthbound too. Or the local grocery store’s organic brand. I’ve seen decent spring mix at Sam’s. I don’t know about Costco.

I like to buy spring mix for my buns because 1) they are not HUGE on veggies and 2) it’s very easy to get variety with it. Like Toby, I look for a good date and sort through it.
