        Hi All,
Quick question. I can give my new bunny a larger space if I set him up in my unfinished basement.
Also it will be cooler for him in the summer. However I’m worried about bringing him upstairs for his out of cage and play time every evening as he doesn’t like to be picked up and also his litter habits aren’t perfect. Any suggestions on how to bring him up and down without scaring him and do you think it will affect t his litter habits to have 2 litter boxes in different locations?

You could train your bunny to get into a carrier when you want to bring him upstairs for play time. Leave it out in bunny’s area at all times so that it becomes a safe hidey space for him, and just lure him in with a treat or similar then you can easily carry him upstairs without any risk.

Regarding the litter box, you can either bring the used litter box upstairs, or with the new one upstairs, just put a little bit of soiled litter into it so that he’s familiar with it and knows where to go straight away, that should help

Depending on the litterbox you have, you can take care of two items at once! Bring your rabbit via the litter box. Wick gets transported in his when he hops in right after I clean it and put more hay, so I just pick it up with him in it and put it back where it belongs. Like any new experience, baby steps first though!

Yes I have used the litter tray method too in occasion but I think it’s very bun dependent, some are bold enough to try and jump from it while being carried.

Thank you for the useful advice everyone. He needs to get use to a carrier anyways as we will travel this summer so I will start there.
