        Hello, everyone!

There was a recent sale on Oxbow Oat Hay at my local shop so I picked up a few small bags. I’ve been blending it in with Jake’s Small Pet Select 2nd cut timothy and…his poop has gotten LARGER.

Should I be concerned? They still look normal (ball shaped and hard when dry with little bits of hay in them). I’m guessing because it’s extra fibrous? Also Jake has a tendency to throw the “shiny” bits out of his hay box. It’s like he’s offended by them

Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

Larger poop is not a problem. Smaller poop is an observandum. Maybe he eats more of this hay because it’s new to him? My Oxbow’s oat hay is my Bam’s favorite. It seems very yummy to rabbits.

Thank you for your answer, bam! <3

I’m a pretty new bun mama (< 1 year) and I'm still trying to figure out what kind of hay is Jake's favorite. He's a pretty good hay eater. Do you think two varieties is enough? He isn't a huge fan of the botanical from Oxbow but he LOVES the timothy and the oat.

Big poops are good poops Means there’s lots of indigestible fibre in the hay which is helping the gut move along well.

My buns have their favourite parts of oaten hay. They eat all the choice pieces first. If I top up the hay before they get hungry, they’ll leave the other bits. But if I leave it a little longer they’ll eat the unfavourable pieces too

Thank you for your answer! I’m glad to hear my Jake isn’t the only one literally turning his nose up at certain pieces

Bam does that too! So picky!
I think 2 types of hay is fine, hay is never exactly the same from batch to batch. My Bam refused the Oxbow botanical but we have members here whose buns devour it. So it’s very individual. It can depend, at least to a degree, on what the mama bun was eating when she was pregnant/lactating.
