Labored Breathing

We came over to see Bugsy, and he’s breathing really fast… his nose is twitching super fast too, and his whole body looks like it’s vibrating… he doesn’t have a wet nose, his ears feel like their normal warmth, his chin isn’t wet… he hasn’t been acting weird, except for laying down alot ( which he normally runs around everywhere), and breathing hard. Could it be that he’s just tired? Or stressed? He’s been doing this for the last 2 days or so… it’s really starting to worry me.

He could be stressed, scared, or sick. Its hard to tell.

There are 3 rowdy kids around.. he keeps thumping at my fiance. Sometimes he thumps if he doesn’t like you sitting on the floor, or if you put something down somewhere he doesn’t like… but he was just sitting there and he came up and started thumping at him… we put a frozen bag of peas under a blanket cause it’s pretty hot in here, and he layed next to it… he has a check-up scheduled for the 5th of June..

I think so too, but I can’t take him… We’re currently looking for a better place for him. We might insulate the garage room ( it’s a separate place in the garage) and carpet it, it has a plug in so maybe we can put a space heater… we’re working on it. I want to bring him home sooo badly.

They will stretch out and breath a little harder if they are hot. When it got really hot in the house last week, Leopold acted like he was dying (not really, but you get the idea). They got put in the basement for 2 days straight.

He might have been hot, he was laying up against the peas for about a half hour. He was also really frustrated and I don’t know why.. He started running around thumping at everyone in the room, came up to me, and bit my arm pretty hard, didn’t draw blood but I have 2 little scars… he ran back down, and started to.. have ‘fun’ with the couch cushion so, I just let him do his thing, but then he stopped and started thumping again. We have a stuffed rabbit, so I gave him that and he proceeded to ‘have fun’ with that.. but then again, came and thumped at me, I got off the couch thinking maybe i was too close for him to finish, and he chased me to the kitchen, thumped again, so I went clear across to the other end of the house, and he ‘hid’ when I walked he thumped again… So I’m sitting on the couch now, and he jumped on my lap, so I started to pet him thinking he calmed down, and he let out a low growl, so my fiance grabbed him off of me. He’s completely fine with him, but he doesn’t want me to be in the house, period. I didn’t do anything to hurt him… hopefully all this will change when he gets neutered.

You might want to make sure he has plenty of cool water. A bowl might be helpful because some buns like to put their paws in the water, it will help him to be cool also. If he uses a water bottle, you might want to give him a bowl of water in addition for the same reasons.

I hate to think this, but it could be Bugsy is dehydrated from being in the “care” of someone who denied him his water as a “punishment.” I truly hope he’s not with that person ever again. But having been denied water may have dehydrated him, especially if temperatures are warm. If possitble, I’d take him to the vet, he may need fluids by syringe or even subcutaneously. At least, make sure he has been supplied with plenty of fresh cool water all the time.
