Knee Surgery anyone?

The Dr. wants to remove my torn cartilidge in my knee since it will never heal. There is no blood supply in that spot. I am trying to find people who have had this surgery and also who has not but has same problem. My sis in law had it and she regrets having had the surgery it is not any better. I have been trying to get her on the phone to see what she had and so forth.

I did research and if the cartilidge is removed years later the bones not having that cushion between then will start to rub and chip. Then comes another surgery. The cartilidge is the cushion between the bones of the knee.

My Mom tells me that later  on I will need a knee replacement if I have the surgery.

The Dr. has an attitude. I don’t like him. IN seeing me he answered his phone and talked for quite a while on it. Then we went to his office to discuss. I said I want to ask some questions. HE said we already did that. No more questions. I said oh nooo uh uh. HE had the nerve to say that. Then he said leave it to a woman ask them to be quite and what do they do talk.  I really don’t like that man.

My ex mom in law has same problem and her Dr. gives her cortizone shot for it and it is feeling some better.   However my knee has been chronic like that for years just now getting worse. I have to be careful and not twist my leg and it is usually ok.

My Dr. told me will hang up on me or go out on me. I don’t know.  I dont’ like that Dr. for one. I can just deal with it I guess. It acts up when is gona rain I know that for sure hehee. Cause it been raining a lot and it hurts then.

Has anyone else had this problem? How did it turn out?

Yes I had arthroscopic knee surgery about 3 years ago. I tore cartilage during a tennis match and I could not walk!  The surgery was the best thing I have ever done.  I literally walked out of the hospital after the surgery.  I went to a great ortho guy.  I think you just need to find a good doctor if you are not happy with this one.  I have had absolutely no problems since the surgery and I play a lot of tennis.  I was religious about physical therapy after the surgery.

You need to find a new doctor, this one is jerk! I know you wouldn’t use a vet who treats your bunnies badly, there’s no reason you should settle for this doctor who doesn’t show you any respect.

I have to look around for a Dr. to take my ins. I don’t like that Dr. and don’t feel comfortable letting him do the surgery. My friend had surgery 2 months ago. An orthroscopy to remove something behind the knee. She isn’t happy cause she won’t be healed til sept. of 2009. ?  she had the same DR. that I saw. If I don’t like his attitude now I wonder about his attitude during the surgery. Can’t be much better.  I may go and ask Matilda what she thought of his attitude or if he was more personable with her.

He never mentioned physical therapy either. I will ask Matilda if she was sent for physical therapy after the surgery. I talked to my Mom and she had p/t and has no more problems. She told me how to wrap the knee too.  As long as I dont’ twist it and it won’t rain it is ok. Hhehee.

Ack! He sounds horrible! I would definately get a second opinion (always a good idea before a surgery anyway)! At the very least, a second doctor will probably be a lot nicer…

I had two surgeries on my right knee, about 20 years ago (sheesh I’m old).  The first one was an arthroscope to remove some detatched cartilidge and the second was an ACL reconstruction.  Other than slightly limited range of motion (I can’t squat all the way down anymore) and some skin sensitivity on the surgical scar, I have not had any problems with it.  I agree, seek out another doc, there are many of them out there and there is no reason to put up with one you do not like.

i think even if you do get the surgery you need to get yourself a better doctor, that one sounds like a right b**tard i would ring around or complain about him, you should feel comfy enough to ask whatever questions you like if you are worried.

My father was a runner for years and had surgery on both knees. He’s a busy, active man still and rides bikes on a regular basis and still jogs on occasion. He does not have problems with his knees anymore even after the surgery.

I wouldn’t be surprised if I need the same thing… I did gymnastics for 12 years so my knees are pretty screwy. They don’t act up much anymore, but when they do it’s hell.

The only thing I have to say is that recovery from knee surgery can be  a beeotch. But if you think it will help you, look into it. And always get a second opinion.

i second going to get a second opinion, even if you have to pay for a private consultation it will be worth it
