English isn’t my first lanugage so please respect me as I’m learning to understand English.

I was researching to find good quailty hay for guinea pigs and rabbit because my local farm sell horrible hay. I’m planning to get oxbow timothy hay and orchard grass hay (50lbs each) through doctor smith website (good cheap shipping).

Anyway somehow I found Kleenmama website and it mentioned that they can sell bluegrass hay for guinea pigs. 45lbs of bluegrass hay for I think 26 dollars (but shipping it will add up to 50ish dollars which is ok to me).

So that website didnt mentioned about bluegrass hay should be ok for rabbit. Do you think it is ok for rabbit to eat Kleenmama bluegrass hay?

Thank you for taking your time to read this and respond if you can

Yes, Bluegrass is okay and I have ordered from Kleenmama and they have good quality hay. I think you can even get mixtures (1/2 bluegrass and 1/2 timothy) sometimes which is good for variety.

I might suggest that you get a small amount just to make sure your rabbits do like this hay before you invest in a large quantity. Rabbits can be very picky about the hay they like.

Yes I’m aware of my rabbit is very very picky about hay.

If he didn’t like it. It’s okay. I can give bluegrass hay to my two guinea pigs. My pigs love to eat any kind of hay.
I wish Romeo (rabbit) love to eat hay as much as my pigs

That’s lucky that the piggies will eat any kind of hay. I’m the same as you – I wish my rabbits were not picky about their hay.

You know what’s funny? Most rabbit owners are happy with local farm’s hay because rabbits love to smell fresh hay from local farm or whatever.
But my rabbit didn’t like local farm hay. He rather to eat oxbow hay or kaytee hay.

American Pet Diner Timothy Gold Hay is another that might be worth looking at. By the way, you English is really good!

Jerseygirl — Thanks, but I’m sure I have little English grammar errors. Anyway,, I went to American Pet Diner website and It’s good site! I cannot find any where that say how much for shipping. I think I’ll have to create an account to see how much I have to pay for shipping

                        Thanks for sharing

My rabbits eat the APD 2nd Cutting Timmy Hay – the shipping is higher than Oxbow but I think the quality is much better than Oxbow so I’m willing to pay it – I get the 25 pound box. You probably will have to go through the whole order process (up to submitting) to get the shipping price – I do know they ship UPS.

well if Romeo dont like western timothy hay then he will try APD timothy hay.

                            Thanks for letting me know

The BinkyBunny store also carries the small APD second cutting in her store and her small baled hays are top quality too. If I didn’t have 9 rabbits these are what I would feed my rabbits. She has a nice variety too.

I wish I have enough money so I can adopt more pets.

Binkybunny store – I like that store

                                  Good luck with the hay.

I also have to agree that APD Timothy Gold (2nd cutting) is my favorite 2nd cut hay. We used to sell 2nd cutting (not APD) compressed mini-bales in our store, but 2nd cut is very soft and doesn’t do well when cut and compacted. It breaks more easily and gets dusty. The APD bags – mini bales are not compressed or cut short They’re actually not really mini bales so I am not sure why APD calls them that, they are just 10oz bags of hay. A very good way to test it out before you buy a bunch more.

I may carry larger bags of APD’s second cut because it really is very good, and time and time again I have not been disappointed with the quality even when they say their hay is a little more brown due to seasonal changes. I just haven’t seen much brown.

I have also have heard good things about Kleenmama hay, I just haven’t seen it myself. I may have to try it out too!

I googled to see if KM second cut hay is good. I found this website

                                            http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/diet-nutrition/37077-thorns-weeds-kms-3rd-cut-timothy-hay.html

Some guinea pigs owners found thorns, weeds, dead bugs in these boxes

Rarely find any of these in bluegrass hay..

                                            Anyone have same problems?

We had a discussion a long while back about what people found in their hay.(It wasn’t a discussion about a particular company, but more a hay generality) When ordering larger amounts of hay, especially when people order bales and half bales, the things that people found was amazing – Someone found actually found a boot in theirs!. My understanding is it is normal to find dead bugs and some sticks here and there. The smaller packages will have less of that though due to the fact that the hay has to be separated out and so more stuff will be filtered out that way.

Also, some hays like “Teff” are naturally more pest resistant, so the nature of blue grass may have the same affect and so maybe that is why less bugs were seen there. ??
