So Scooter and I went to the shelter this afternoon to meet up with K&K and see about sitting in on her bunny cuddling session. I’m not entirely sure if we had the time or area wrong but we didn’t end up hooking up with her
. But we did get a chance to look at a cute little lionhead baby that we’d seen the day before and had been considering adopting. And she was cute, but she didn’t seem very lionhead-y and that was a little disappointing. So as we waited around a bit we started looking at other buns and noticed a cage with 2 adult lionhead mix females that were pretty darn cute too. And then we noticed a new sign, for a “me and my shadow” promotion on bunnies! If the adult bunny you’re adopting is sharing it’s cage with another one then you can adopt the “shadow” for free. Hmmm, un-altered baby bunny, or 2 cute spayed lionhead-mix girls for the same price.So now we have 2 more bunnies in the house, for a total of *6*. We’re not awfully keen on the names they came with, but since they’re part of the 211 bunnies I’m fairly sure they didn’t have names when they came in and won’t really care if we change them so we’ll be coming up with new ones this evening. Their shelter pics do NOT do them justice, so I’ll see if I can get some good pictures of them later too. In the meantime here are their shelter pics:

Update: We have named them. The white one on the right-hand photo in our original post was originally named Rona by the shelter. We have renamed her Keelie, which is a corruption of “Keelia” which is Celtic for “slender and fair”. The pearl one on the left-hand photo was originally named Leona. We have renamed her Kylie, a corruption of “Kiley” which is Celtic for “good looking”. And yes, we’re aware that’s also the name of a famous Australian pop singer! The names also rhyme, which we like because they came to us together.
We’ve had our original four out with Keelie and Kylie in a separate enclosure, and there is some sniffing of noses by most, and some growling by our beeyotchy bunny Reno. Now the four are back in their enclosure and Keelie and Kylie are out. Pictures as soon as they are uploaded!
UPDATE WITH PICS! I cannot get a good picture of Keelie where her eyes aren’t red in it. Sooner or later I will. But in the meantime just know that no they’re not red, they’re blue.

OMG they are beaufiul!! I’ve actually met both of them before!! I emailed you, but basically I got stuck out at the horse rescue, where we were doing fencing….I wouldn’t have felt so terrible if I’d had some way to get ahold of you!! So sorry S&A!!! Can I give you a rain cheque??
The good news is, we got ALL the posts up for two fence lines accross the whole 20A property as well as a special pen made for the really old blind horse So very very good day, but exhausted!! We didn’t get home until ten thirty…I literally just got out of the shower that I hit as soon as I got in!! -
Below is a photo of Keelie without the extensive red-eye. You can see her lovely blue eyes.
Are these our last bunnies? Well, we’re drawing the line at 6! Of course, until yesterday we insisted on drawing the line at 4. And once, we drew the line at 3, and then wound up with Tegan. We adopted these two because Annette’s always wanted lionheads, and nearly got one two years ago but held back because at the time, we had just adopted our Aeryn. We also told ourselves we were doing our “civic duty” by adopting these two, because they’re part of the big seizure of 211 rabbits from a hoarder, which is more than the local shelter handles in a normal YEAR. There’s a thread about this in the rescue bunnies forum.
But seriously, we really can’t handle any more pets. Assuming we get Keelie and Kylie bonded with our other 4, they can live in the same enclosure. But this means we have to build a new enclosure because we’re not sure the 4′ x 4′ one we have is big enough for six. We were planning on constructing a new NIC enclosure once we move completely into our new house in six weeks, and putting the existing enclosure in the basement for when Annette’s relatives’ dogs visit, and also perhaps for fostering shelter bunnies. Which WE ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT KEEP!…..
….Yeah, right….
K&K: We understand about yesterday, and are glad that you finished the fence job! A rain cheque would be great. Just let us know when.
