A person who has dogs who have kennel cough wants a ride somewhere – if the dog owner has contact with the dogs, then has contact with the car, could that then spread it to the my rabbits through our contact with the car? I know it’s airborne and food / water bowls can spread it, but simple contact with the car be enough to spread it as well? I will be calling the vet to ask too tomorrow just want to check here first… don’t want to say yes if they would at all be risking my buns health.

well Kennel Cough is essentially an upper repository infection…so yes, rabbits can get Bordetella bronchiseptica (the bacterium that causes “kennel cough” in dogs)

here is some more information about the bacteria:

I know buns can get it – just wondering if the act of giving this person a ride would bring it into the house via car to clothing to rabbits exposure.

well it is an airborne bacteria so if they have it and then the transport it to your car then of course your rabbits and other pets if you have any would have a chance of getting it. its kinda like being around some one who is sick and keeps coughing or sneezing without taking the precautions to be polite and cover their mouth/nose. even though you dont have direct contact, the germs are still around and they of course can still be transmitted to you.
