Well i have a new problem.. Hammers veggies no longer fit in my refrigerator! My mom is starting to get mad at my takin up the frig, ive had to talk her into throwing out leftovers to leave the veggies in there lol. so i thought about a mini frig, it would go in my room. Im thinking it would work really well since hammers in my room. This way i could give veggies as treats along with his daily meals. i was just wandering if this sounds like a good idea or if anyone elses bun has there own frig lol Also does anyone have any tricks for getting veggies to last longer? i put cilantro in water and that seems to work really well. Has anyone tried those green bads on tv or those lettce savers from tupperware? here is a pic of the frig i want, its $124 i think.

I don’t have one..but it’d actually be a good idea if I had anywhere to put it.  The bunny veggies take up the crisper and I have no where for the people veggies lol.

You could maybe cut up the veg and put portions in small stackable containers. That keeps the air from getting from them and making them become limp due to moisture being drawn out. There’s some cartridge you can put with veggies that absorbs Ethylene(I think). This is substance that veggies emit that make them go bad. Otherwise you could always be less veggies just more often.

What a lucky bunny to have his own fridge! I think it is a great idea! I only buy 3 days of veg at a time so I’m not to sure about techniques to keep them fresh, but regarding parsley and cilantro, I heard that giving them an ice water bath will perk them up if they have gone a little bit limp.

I had that exact same fridge in college! (the black one) And let me tell you… the can dispenser in the door was great for holding….beverages like coca cola. Also, after a party there was always cans of….coca cola…. left in it that no else found. We called it the magic beer drawer… I mean coca cola drawer. And good lord how many veggies does your bunny eat? It doesn’t fit in the fridge??

hooty lol ‘coca cola’ dispenser wouldnt really get used but great to know it will work for college next year ; ). it fits in the frig but there is not much else that will fit (like if we have a party there is no room in the frig). the whole bottom shelf of our frig is all animals basiclly, veggies upon veggies, cat food, rat veggies, insulin for the cat.. thats about it. sometimes a few waters fit down there too haha

urm…*raises hand* My bunnies have their own fridge. Have to, all the veggies I buy don’t fit in my big fridge. *blush*

Also keeps the water bottles cool and fresh and it’s great for their freeze bottles too. (Mine has two sections, one for cooling and one for freezing.) It was a cast off of my hubby’s old restaurant.
It’s out in the kitchen though, not in my room. And keep in mind the back of these things get really dusty, dirty and full of any fluff that happens to drift by, it’ll clog up pretty quick and the fan won’t work. Plus any heat shunted from the inside goes right out the back, so point it at a window or something if you can.

Keeping veggies? What’s that? Mine plow through theirs too fast to worry about how they’re kept…minus the kale which they only get once a week.

Yeah it guess it wouldn’t be a bad investment. But right now its just me and Felony, so we have a fridge all to ourselves… When Fel’s step-daddy (aka my boyf) moves in, we shouldn’t have much of a problem either bc he eats like a rabbit… minus the pellets and hay of course.

I really didn’t have a problem with that fridge, and if I remember correctly the back isn’t open, so it would be good for keeping out any bunny/cat fur.

                              Hooty…. LMAO!!!!! coco-cola…. lol.

i think it’s a great idea, but like Mimz said, the back will get very dusty and furry if it’s in your room. is there a corner of the kitchen you can put it so it’s out of the way?

lol im really starting to get sucked into the bunny world. idk if im crazy or lucky lol, ill go with lucky. The kitchen is WAY too small of anything else, not on the floor or counters lol. so it will have to go in my room, but hooty said she thinks it didnt have an open back so tons of hair wouldnt be a problem if she is remembering right

The green bags work very well.  I grocery shop once a week and try to buy enough veggies for 1 week.  I wash them- lay them out on paper towels and aim a small fan on them to get them dry- and then bag them up in the green bags.  I have found to best not to smoosh the bags next to each other- I think that impairs releasing some of the ethylene gas that spoils the veggies.

                                      http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&mc=1&SKU=14948821

I have not had to get a second refrig- but hubby has been warned now and again NOT to eat all of the chopped romaine- he has to leave some for the bunny.  (He makes salads)

What a great idea to have a mini fridge. I also have a great trick on how to keep leafy greens fresh for longer – I do this for when I have to go out of town and I need a pet sitter to just grab a bag of the right amount of greens.

I use large ziplock bags, poke holes in it with a fork. I wrap a damp paper towel around the greens and put them in the bags. I learned this from somewhere on the internet, and it works like a charm. The leafy greens stay fresh for longer than a week. You do want to be sure that your greens are NOT soaking wet, but damp is okay, and if they are damp then just put a dry paper towel around them as it will end up becoming damp from the greens. If the greens are dry, then you would want to make sure the paper towel is damp.

                                        It works amazingly well.

I do basically the same thing that binky bunny does – wash leafy greens – air dry them – wrap them with a paper towel – and into a bag.

The bag does have to get air into it, so poking hole in a ziplock is a good idea – i just use the bags I put the veggies in when I buy them at the grocery.

With herbs like Parsley – you can trim the bottoms and set them upright in a glass with a lite water in it in the frig & loosely place a bag over the top of the herb and the glass – they will last quite a while this way – However, i always end up knocking over the glass and getting water all over the place.

That’s a really good idea. try craigslist and freecycle to see if you can get a fridge for cheaper or free. I just got a mini fridge almost exactly like that for $20 offa craigslist. Shoulda kept it…lol Just a suggestion.
