keeping cool?

its about to get warm and i was wondering any methods to keep the buns cool. im moving them up to my room, now they are in the basement where it is cool, but get minimal interaction.

they dont seem to get/like the frozen water bottle thing, and there is not possible way i can leave my fan on all day.

any suggestions?

Do you have air conditioning in your room? And how hot is it going to get where you live? It concerns me that you can’t leave a fan on for them and they don’t like the frozen water bottles to lay against. I was going to say to put a damp cloth over part of the cage and let the fan blow on it to create a cool breeze, but if you can’t leave a fan on then that won’t be an option. Are you home with them during the day? One thing I do suggest is to be sure you have a thermometer in there and monitor it closely. They would be in danger of heat stroke if it got over 80 F. You could also get some ceramic tile and place it in their cage for them to lay on; although my buns don’t seem to like laying on them, but that may be because we like to keep our house pretty cool (it’s rarely over 72). Sorry for all the questions….just trying to get a better picture of what its like there.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that if it’s getting hot in there, be sure that their pen isn’t in direct sunlight. I saw some of your other posts and I’m so glad that you get to move them to your room soon. It’ll be so much better for them (and YOU!!) to be able to interact more! Be sure to post pics of your new setup after its built! Can’t wait to see it!

cant wait till its done!!

so the basement is cool but i am set to bring them up from the depths of the basement. CERAMIC TILES! yes, i can definetly do that as they seem to like them. the cage will be under a window, but no direct sunlight. I am in michigan (near detroit), so summers can get upwards of ~90 F. 

AC will be on except for when NO ONE is home. same for the fan thing.

It sounds like your in the same situation as i am with keeping the buns cool…i like in PA and it can get just as hot here. My bunnys condo is in my room also and when no one is home the AC is not on bc we dont have central air we only have air units that are in the wall. I do leave my celling fan on though when i am gone and also we have an attic fan which is on when know one is home which brings air in from the outside through the windows more. We have two dogs also so we cant have the house being crazy hot.

I would suggest doing the ceramic tiles i have two on the bottom level of my buns cage and when its hot he lays on them, i also put in two frozen water bottles one on the ceramic tiles and one somewhere else that he normally lays. Even thought you may not see him laying against the frozen water bottles they might when your not looking. And even if they dont it will make the ceramic tiles even cooler which will help.

I personally wouldnt be to worried about it, i know i still worry about my bunny during the hot weather but…if you think about it, there are so many bunnys out there who live in outdoor hutches and are in the heat and are fine,(my friend has two farm buns who live outside year round) i know its not right and i would never do it bc its wrong but my mom always tells me that my bunny is KING bc he is living such a great life indoors haha.
