So I noticed when I was getting hay that there’s this new Kaytee timothy hay that comes with either carrots, marigolds or mint in it. Obviously the one with carrots would be way bad unless I wanted a fatty fat bun. What about the other two, would those be ok for her? Maybe even if I get one of those and another bag the same size and mixed them so there’s less of whatever in it. What do you guys think? Also, if buns can have marigolds can I just go pick a flower straight out of the garden for her?

Well, they are meant as a treat hay so I don’t think any of them would be bad for her since they are only meant as treats. I cannot answer the question about your marigolds though. I do know you could try fresh mint to see if she would like that – my rabbits love fresh mint.

I was surprised at the price of the “plus” hay- it is very expensive in my local pet stores!!

I got a bag of the plus with mint and you’d think I tried to poison everyone, all 5 bunnies and both pigs said NOPE NO WAY. Hershey even kicked it all out of the litter box

If there was anyone in the Waco area I’d give it to you to try….lol

Well I found it at PetCo and they wanted $9.99 a bag. At PetSmart it’s only $5.99. I also am not afraid to spend more than I should and spoil her rotton. She is my replacement for a lost baby, which means she gets all the love, attention and mothering that I’ve misplaced. I probably spend WAY too much on the little brat. Just like a kid she hates all the toys I buy her, has temper tantrums and pouts when she doesn’t get her way. I figure since I don’t have to teach her to be a decent member of society I can spoil without too many repurcussions. I’ll research more on the marigolds before I giver her any.

That sounds like some yummy stuff for once in awhile. I wonder if I could tempt my picky Mimzy with it?
I’m curious though, does anyone here ever see any difficulty with either constipation, uneaten cecals or other poopy butt type problems if your bunnies eat a particular kind of hay? I notice that Pip & Fiver do better with oat or wheat hays, and Mimzy does better with timothy. I always thought hay would go through well, no matter what.
Fiver used to be able to enjoy the hays that have dried flowers or other herbs in them, but recently he seems to show an allergy to them.

I’ve given Freya a few different kinds of hay and all sorts of veggies and she’s never had any issues. I did look it up and marigolds are totally fine for her so I think I’ll get her some of that hay. I’ll probably just mix it with a big bag so there are very few marigolds. I’m also going to cut a bunch of marigolds out of the garden and dry them for her.

I gave gizmo a brome hay and a meadow grass and that was cecal city.

more than a tiny amount of alfalfa hay and it’s poopy butt too.

we mostly stick to timothy. and we’ll hide some herbs in there since the poor guy doesn’t get alot of hay variety.
