One of the women from my local HRS, suggested that if I wanted to try a different type of food, I might try Kaytee rainbow exact. The pellets in this food don’t really look at all like the other foods. Does anyone have experience with this one? Is it a good food?

Yes, it is an alfalfa based “pellet” – as you see it’s not a pellet per say but it’s not extruded the same way as other pellets. One of my rabbits eats it and many of my rabbit friends have used this. There was mention of this on another list I’m on too – let me see what others had to say about it and I’ll post that too.

I should add. Henri needs alfalfa in his diet because he is an angora. With Henri and Acorn living together, I am trying to figure out how to best accomplish this without making Acorn fat. I was thinking abotu using these pellets 1/2 and 1/2 with my timothy based pellets.

              Here’s the ingredients and analysis.

Funny that people on the other list were saying that their rabbits had less bladder sludge problems on this pellet (that was one of the topics it was listed under). It’s lower in calcium than Oxbow Basics T but has a higher fat and protein content.

Alot of people also use this as “mush” for sick buns. They wet it to soften it and most of the times their buns will eat it like that.

I’ve also heard mention on one list that they might be good for rabbits with dental problems too as they are more like hard dog food (they aren’t of course) then traditional rabbit pellets and maybe the chew/grind factor would be good for that – cannot find yet where I saw that.
