Kale is one of those vegetables with oxalates (sp?) that we are warned can be hazardous to a bun in large quantities. My little almost 5 lb. loppy Mimzy is showing a renewed interest in this leafy green, and now seems to eat it with gusto without any noticeable digestive upset. So far, I only give him the leaf part and skip the stem. I’d say his portion is about a palmful per week. Is this too much or can he have more? He sure seems to want more of it, but I don’t want to ‘overdose’ him on this iron-rich green. How can you tell if you’ve given too much, does anyone know?

From what I understand kale and spinach should be fed no more than once a week, so you’re right on track there.

I think another reason you don’t want to overfeed this is it’s also calcium rich-not totally sure about that though. Once a week sounds about right

my bunnies love kale. The issue is that it’s high in calcium, which can cause sludge in the urinary tract. so it doesn’t usually cause a tummy upset, but too much calcium can lead to the sludge issues. I give my guys the whole leaf, but don’t give it to them more than once a week.
