I haven’t been on the board in a long time.  After DH was downsized in June, we dropped our internet service to save money.  We began solely using our Droid Phones for internet & unfortunately, BinkyBunny cannot be accessed for postings on a droid phone.  So over that time, we lost Chewbacca to pneumonia.  She died while we were on the road for a job interview.  Our sitter found her.  It was awful!

Jessica had a pretty crazy health year:  head tilt and later stasis brought on by urine sludge.  She survived well, but I’m always highly concerned about her water intake.

We relocated from Philly to the Piedmont Triad (Highpoint/Greensboro) in NC just before Christmas.  It was a rough drive down w/ 5 cats & Jessica rabbit.  She’s been a bit testy since moving to NC.   She hasn’t been following her food & exercise schedule; pellets in the AM w/ hip hop time, then PM veggies w/ hip hop time.  She’s become a bit of a pee’er since the sludge problems, so we can’t let her free roam all the time, especially now that we have carpet.  I’m not convinced she drinks much of her water.  Her original water bottle broke on the drive down and then she had to use a bowl for a few days.  When we got the new bottle she started drinking again, but then we had to relocate her pen.  She has been set w/ the relocation for a few weeks.  I switched up her food & litter based on her lagomorph lingo; which seems to be better now.  But again, I’m worried about the water intake.  I’ve been force watering cc’s in the evening.

Anyway….any good rabbit & cat vet recommendations for our new location?  We’ve been getting some mixed reviews so local info would be very helpful.  I’ve already checked house rabbit, but I would like some personal input.  We’ve decided Jessica will remain as a single bun, but when her time comes I plan on adopting (atleast) a bonded pair……I’ve been monitoring Wilmington Rabbit Rescue.  I’d LOVE a Flemish & Lionhead pair.

Thanks…PS I have a new job as a LICENSED psychologist down here in NC w/ an autism assessment & tx clinic.   DH is still looking for work.

I have seen a vet listing on the ‘bunspace’ website. It lists clinics along with some reviews from people who have taken their rabbits. I am not sure how different it is from the HRS site.

I’m so happy to hear from you! Congrats on the new job! I might have to enlist your help, I feel like I’m *thisclose* to losing my mind!

I’m glad that Jesicca is hanging in there. I don’t have any recs for vets in that area. But I’m sure someone will be able to shed some light…

Nothing from my area on Bunspace…

              Other suggestions?

You might ask the rescue you mentioned whether they work with any rabbit savvy vets who either donate their time or are hired to help when needed. It might be a few names to start with.

Maybe your local ASPCA chapter has some vets listed as well. Hopefully someone on this site is from your area and will read this too.

Condolences on Chewbacca. It sounds like it’s been a really hard time for your family, but I, too, offer my congrats on your new job. Maybe things are looking up in 2011.

I found those on google too.  I was hoping someone might have some direct experience w/ the area.  We found a vet near my job, not too far from the house, & they passed many of my phone questions.  Hopefully I’ll be doing some more checking up.

thanks everyone.  Our hope is that 2011 is a great year for us.  We lost 3 pets last year (Leo the lionhead, Max my old baby cat, & Chewbacca).  Unfortunately Chewy had been w/ us for only about 2 yrs.  My husband lost his job (yeah the economy is great!), his car was totaled by a drunk driver, & we had terrible financial drama (that’s what happens when you have to complete 1 yr post doc & 1 yr pre-doc for licensure).  Since coming down w/ our 5 kitties (2 newbies we got just this past summer), beloved Jessica rabbit, & 2 toasty Geckos, we look forward to a much better 2011.

I will ask my parents who live in Greensboro if they know of any good vets in the area. I don’t remember the name of where they take my dog but I will find out! How are you liking Greensboro? I go and visit sometimes, it is nice. I hope the vet you spoke with is an option too.

                        Hi there,
I, too, haven’t been on here in forever…. BUT I live in Durham NC. The only bunny vet I know of is Kay Bishop and she’s in Durham. She’s very good, but it’s a drive from Greensboro, maybe an hour.

Durham is a hike.  DH may be taking a job in Chapel Hill b/c he hasn’t found anything here in the triad.  He used to commute over 1 hr ea way in Philly, so I guess he’s ok w/ the commute.

Thanks so much for the input.  Mr Mac, please let me know what your parrents suggest.  I’m currently thinking  about a newer practice on Wendover b/t High Point & Greensboro.  Got to say…so far I LOVE NC!  This winter has been AMAZING!  Maybe b/c I grew up in Chgo & spent all last winter shoveling out of snow in Philly, but this winter has been beautiful.  I’ve been wearing only a sweatshirt or blazer every day since being down here.  We originally wanted to move to Greensboro, it felt more urban than High Point, but we got more space for our money in High Point.  So I’m definately liking it here.

My parents are in Summerfield and go to the Summerfield vet. My mom said that there are many good cat vets/specialists but is unsure about rabbits. Her neighbor has some cats, I can see where they take their cats if that would be of any help.

Thanks Mr Mac!  I appreciate in the input from your parents.  If they have any other suggestions about cheap furniture that would be much appreciated  We trashed our mattress in philly & need a new one as well as a couch.  Somethings are just more difficult to relocate than others.

Furniture wise: Furnitureland South-Clearance Building (the main showroom is like a museum they said, pricey), Colfax, there is an Ikea in Charlotte also. They said that in the Jamestown area (where Furnitureland is) there are a lot of furniture stores too.
