How is he now? It’s normal for them to still be out of it for a bit after they get home. He should start eating soon though.

How is he now? It’s excellent that he ate both a blueberry and some hay. Vets often give buprenorphin (or similar opioid) to neutered rabbits, and that tends to have exactly the effect you describe.

Keep keeping track of poop and obviously food intake. He will poop less to begin with, because both anesthesia and burprenorphin slows the gut, and there’s not as much food in him as there normally is.

Sounds like he’s rounded the corner! Once they start eating hay I always breath a big sigh of relief. 🙂

Yeah I was definitely worried for a while but I had to walk away from him and let him rest a bit then come back.

Understandable! It is so hard to see them all groggy from the medications, but it’s true they usually just do need some rest and time to wake up a bit.

That’s how it was with my Mango. From my understanding it is fine but if you are worried Neosporin without pain reliever is safe for use on rabbits.  I read on another site that Manuka Honey Wound Care with sterilized Manuka honey as the only ingredient is also good to use – no antibiotics and safe to consume for bun buns (and other pets)

Thank you…I think if he’s acting Okey otherwise he’s good..I’ll keep an eye on the incision though.

Some slight redness and swelling is normal. Inflammation is the first step in normal wound healing.

Signs to be worried about are excessive swelling and redness and seepage. If one or both of the testicular sac/s swell up, you also want to contact your vet because it could mean there’s internal leaking.

Here’s picture of my girl bun’s scar the day after her spay:

As you can see, the edges of the wound are slightly swollen and there’s a tiny bit of redness. (This is a very good surgical wound, so it’s NOT a warning example!)
