I had to euth a cat in March due to pancreatic cancer- Moonshine was a gorgeous silver tabby cat. (There is a post in the Support/Rainbow Bridge Forum).  Not a purebred or rare breed,  just a more rare color of the everyday ordinary American cat.  I looked on petfinder and saw 2 silver tabby littermates- male and female.  I emailed my application and am waiting to hear back.  They are not a Humane Society or Shelter with a big facility and daily staffing- so I am waiting to hear back from them.

The kittens came in with as a litter- and as I looked at the other kittens listed I realized that they all have “M” names.  I started crying because when Moonshine came into the Humane Society that I worked at years ago- my coworker named him Moonshine, I named his silver tabby and white brother Milkyway and we gave the other 5 brown tabby littermates all “M” names also due to the very pronounced “M” on a tabby forehead- especially a silver tabby forehead.

I have my fingers crossed that these 2 kittens are the ones that I have been looking for- that they are meant to be my forever kittens.  I don’t want to post a pic of them from petfinder yet as I don’t want to “jinx” it.  But they were listed on Wed and I saw them and sent in my application late Wed night.  They only list email contact- and I have been checking my email ALL THE TIME to see if they have replied yet.  Their listing says they cannot be adopted for 1-2 weeks since they are not spayed/neutered yet- but I want to go visit them so badly!!!  I can wait a couple of weeks for the right kittens- and then my heart won’t make me keep checking petfinder everyday.  LOL.

I am interested in adopting two- due to the reduced 2nd adoption fee and one of my other cats is older and has been diagnosed with renal diseae.  And I am sure my 3 yr old cat would love to have 2 kittens to also cuddle and play with.  My older cat won’t play as I am sure her old bones are sore when she gets tackled by the young playful cat.

How exciting for you! I hope you are successful. They’d be going to a great home. I’ve been meaning to ask…how’s Cotton been going since Moonshine passed? I remember you saying she sort of bonded with him.

How exciting about the kittens. My little girl cat Abby is 13 now. I had to put down my 12 year old cat Charlie last year. I can’t imagine not having Abby around as she’s a real people cat and loves attention. Good luck and I hope to see pictures soon.

Yay! For you and the kittens, I hope all goes well! I’m sure you’ll be happier with the kittens, and I can’t imagine a better home for them either .

Good luck Katnip! How exciting! Can’t wait to see piccies of them. How wonderful to be looking forward to having young ones in the house again. And a bro and sis at that…neat!

My Griffy cat was so tiny when we first got him, he hadn’t developed properly because he’d been put on solid food too soon and had pretty badly bent rear legs, so I got to ‘mother’ him for a few weeks with KMR and little baby bottles…fun stuff! ^_^
It’s been a while since I had to speuter a cat…how old do they have to be for that to happen?

Well I heard back today and we were approved- so we went to see the kittens.  She told me that before she went there that the male silver tabby was pending adoption- so I told her I was still interested in Melody the silver tabby female and one of the other kittens too- and that I would decide when I got there.

Of course they were totally cute and playful!  The kittens are 8 weeks old now- but need to be 2lbs before spay or neuter- and they can go to their new homes after that.  But we signed the contract and wrote a check today- so it is a done deal!  But 6 weeks ago the rescue group got a call from a shelter (probably animal control) that the Mom and 5 kittens were to be scheduled for euthanasia.  The rescue group put them into foster care- the Mom and kittens all had upper resp infections- and last week the kittens at approx 7 weeks were separated from Mom.  The litter was listed on Wed, I sent my application in late Wed night and by Friday- the silver tabby male was pending, I have 2 kittens pending, the gray male I did not choose had a few other people that had also emailed, and that only leaves a black female kitten to find a home for.  Not shabby for listing the kittens 2 days ago on PetFinder!!!

Here is Melody- I may keep that name- she is a silver mackeral tabby.  Mackeral is the name of her tabby pattern (fish-bone like).  She does have an infection in her left eye that she is being treated for- the vet expects it to clear up 100%.  And she certainly acted like a healthy, happy kitten- so no worries there.  She was attacking my husbands feet in the photo.  The dark grey kitten is the male that I did not choose- but he had a few people that expressed interest if I did not adopt him.

This is Mitchell- name will be changed.  He was the first one that ran to me when I came in- and he was rubbing on my fingers and he purrs if you even come close to touching him.  I wish I could say that we chose him but the photo clearly shows that he picked my husband out- I can totally picture him saying “Yes, this slave pleases me and he is now mine”.  He was just became the obvious choice and I am happy the way things worked out- if Matthew (the silver tabby male) had not been pending and I had to choose between him and Mitchell- it would have been a tough choice.  This was just a clear match and I don’t regret that Matthew already was chosen.

And here is a pic of my husband holding the 2 we are adopting.  The dark grey male climbed up on my husbands shoulders.

And here is a pic of Matthew- the silver tabby male that I did NOT adopt.  He is cute- but I think Mitchell was meant to be my kitten not Matthew.  Matthew had a darker face than Melody under the eyes.

Melody and Mitchell can come home after they are spayed and neutered- which is the requirement of 8 weeks (which they are) and 2 lbs- and they are not quite 2 lbs yet.  So in another week or two my kittens can come home!!!!!

Oh my gosh, I would’ve been out of there with one tucked under each arm and one under the hat! ^_^

Congratulations! They are all so sweet! Isn’t it cool how they choose you, not the other way around? ^_^

I’m so glad for you all! Adorable kittens! I will always stand by my statement that the 2 cutest things in the world are kittens and baby bunnies.

It’s been so long since I had a kitten…I’m craving kittens…those pics didn’t help. I will get another someday. Maybe when I can go 6 months with no vet bills!!!!

Oh my gosh they’re just so precious! And yes Mitchell obviously made his mind up, you simply had no choice on that one.

I hope someone picks the little black girl soon – black cats have the worst adoption record. Even if people say they’re not superstitious somehow they still shy away from black cats.

Congrats! I am glad Mitchell got his heart’s desire. It always works out well when an animal chooses us, rather than us choosing them. The pic of your husband with the three kittens is really, really sweet! (And I love it that his cap says “Wildcats”!)
