So I’ve had my little man, Theodore, for almost a year now and he is neutered and super laid back and mellow most of the time. He rarely growls or shows aggressive behavior, the only time he does is if we try to pull him out of his cage unwillingly. Well, he seemed to be a little lonely since he begs for attention whenever I get home from work. He stands on his back legs, does a huge binky, shoves his nose through the bars, etc. So I though it would be a good idea to get him a lady friend! Well I brought him with me to pick her up and they were great together in the car. My friend held Theodore while I held Greta (unspayed) next to him and they hung out for a while. They were fine on the way home too, their carriers were facing each other and there was no aggression.
Well I made a mistake.
This morning I put a pen next to his pen so that Greta and Theodore could meet through the bars, but Theodore started lunging at the bars. After he did this a few times I separated them again (her cage is in the next room) and gave them a cooling off period. I’ve got a blanket of Greta’s in Theodore’s cage now, and a stuffed animal of Theodore’s in Greta’s cage so they can get used to the smells. I’m planning on having her spayed as soon as she’s old enough.
Should I wait until her spaying to introduce them again or try again slowly day by day? I have a neutral space for them to meet and I plan on taking Theodore with us on her first check up to the vet. I just need to know what I should do now!
