So it’s been 3 weeks since I adopted Archie and he has gained. So much muscle. Story time, I was putting fresh hay in his litter box, which I’d placed on a table around 3 ft high because if I don’t, he’ll attempt to sit in the litter box while I refill it. Which doesn’t work. Anyways, he had this real anime moment: he’d never been able to jump onto that table before, but he managed to gain the skill in his moment of need (Sidenote, he always has unlimited hay, this was just him being impatient) and it really shocked me.

3 wks ago, he didn’t have enough muscle to jump a foot tall barrier. The cages they kept them in at the shelter were large for cages, but still cages, and so he didn’t get much exercise. Problem is, he’s now scaring the crap out of me jumping down from these places. Logically I know that if he can jump up to those places, then he can jump down without injuring himself, but it’s still nervewracking as someone who’s never owned a bunny before. Makes me wanna cover the floor in pillows.

          Oh wow!

The impact is considerably higher when a bun jumps down than when they jump up on something, so it’s good if there is at least a rug that he can land on. The best thing would be if there were a middle station like a chair , but that would obviously encourage more table-walking. It could be that jumping up on the table is something he’ll stop being very interested in once he’s explored the possibility a few times. If it’s a table that you have food on, he’ll most likely keep jumping up on it though.
