Well, my lovely Rupert has just been upgraded to a new home with two stories. He loves the extra room, but I’m a little concerned about his jumping behavior. He will jump onto the second level, but then refuses to jump back down (meaning that I have to pick him up to put him back down so that he can use his litter box. I’m not sure if that means that it is too high for him (the height is the size of one NIC cube) or if he is just being his odd little self. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, did you just let them figure it out, or did you just build a ramp? I was planning on building a ramp, but I haven’t gotten to that yet (that is on my list of projects for this week).

Mine were like that until I moved the litterbox to the take off/landing spot. They love jumping off into the hay and seem to get good traction for their take offs too.

That seems like an excellent idea. I should definitely try that when I get home today because he does love playing in his hay. Perhaps that will be enough incentive to take the plunge. Thanks!

along the lines of what kralspace said… what is the flooring like? if it’s slippery, he might be scared to jump down. so either the litterbox, or a pet bed might help him. if the floor seems safe, you might just try to pick him up and take him down a few times so he can get used to. or put him on the higher level and then put food on the first floor, see if he’ll jump down.

Beka, you might have a point. I converted a large dog kennel into a home for him, so the flooring is the plastic tray that is inside. I currently have newspaper on the bottom because he likes to dig and rip it…so that is what he would be landing on. I’m going to try the food thing as well, because he does love food more than anything.
