They are an odd pair, for sure. But it’s cute how they like to hang out together. Mosby got scared on New Year’s Eve when the fireworks started going off, and he went to hide in the bunny cage. I guess he figured his big bunny brother would keep him safe.

Needing a brain break from prepping a unit on genetics for my AP biology class, I decided to look at some cute bunny pictures for a few minutes by visiting this thread. Pinknfwuffy, your beautiful bunny just leaped out at me. There is a mutation in some breeds of cats and rabbits where temperature causes a change in fur temperature. At warmer temperatures, hair is light, because the gene for darker pigment is turned off. At lower temperatures, the darker pigment is expressed. Since a bunnies’ nose, ears, and toes are cooler than the main part of their body, Your bunny shows that even better than the example in my textbook! So cool.

It’s also the reason that dalmations are born without spots and the spots start to develop after a couple of weeks once they’re outside in the real world -

That is tough, Vienna, when all the standard advice doesn’t work. Tis true – girls are stubborn. But I also called them Buns of Destiny because it sounded regal to me, and they looked regal, side by side. They look strong and commanding. Q8, you’ll be making your own greeting cards with Chewies face if the demand keeps up! My hubs also thinks he’s adorable.

By any chance, was your rabbit giving you bunny butt over some issue they took up with you??Reese, yours reminds me more of a small dessert garnish rather than a chunky meanball! Or maybe a little ball of fudge with those colourings.

I just recently found out that Lionhead bunnies have different kinds of manes! No mane, single mane, and double mane. Would you say Buttsie is single mane or double mane? (Sorry I lost the photos of him with his mane fully grown, but these will do)

Your buns are all so beautiful!Oh my, Breintje is going to be a huge meatball as well. My hands were not cooperating this morning and I dropped the tin with the pellets. There were heaps of food on the ground, in my slippers and under the TV stand.
Breintje dove head-first into it of course, and I tried to chase him away while scooping everything back into the tin. The mess was too great, and eventually I let him vacuum up th rest. He must have had twice his normal morning ration. He’s looking very very “tevreten” in the last piccy (courtesy of SpudPhone)!

<3 So… I’m convinced Thor is really a dog in a rabbits body. Why, you may ask?
He ignored his pellets for an extended grooming sesh just now. A good 5 mins with pellets everywhere and Crysta munching on their dinner (she was probably all, “Score!!” Since Thor usually gets the lions share (no pun intended?..).Here is photographic proof this rabbit chose affection over food (I’m still in disbelief he missed me so much when I came home). I even gave him a pellet but he followed me to the other side of the cage instead for more cuddle time.

Not surprised… some buns are just love bugs
This morning I was tired and bummed out about having to get ready for work, so I stretched out on the rug and closed my eyes for an extra wink or two. Chewie bounced up to me, stretched out facing me, wiggled into my face until we were cheek to cheek, and closed his eyes purring happily. We stayed like that for nearly half an hour and I was late to work LOL -
That sounds like heaven, Q8! And the purring 
I love “facetiming” with my bunny, too. Only Chewie is probably more well-behaved and can sit there for longer periods. Thor licks my face till it’s dry, so I have to be careful I haven’t just applied moisturiser! I’d fall asleep next to him, but I’m always worried I’ll wake up with a new haircut courtesy of Hairdresser Crysta

Oh my goodness, he’s so cute! Passed out cold!
L4B: Yeah… I’ve totally woken up before with ‘trimmed’ hair (Chewie often sleeps on the pillow next to mine). And he licks too, but in the mornings, I noticed he’s more into ‘smooshing’ than anything else. I was on my stomach at the time with my head on my arms, so he literally had to squirm his head to find my face and just kind of ‘breathe’ with me. Strange little creature. No wonder I love him so much

Not sure on Reese’s flops, the first video just looks like getting comfy, the second video is more of a flop except my buns tend to do it a little different. Bandit flopped this way, and Apollo does it too, from an upright position they’ll pretty much twist and fall onto their side with quite a distinct “flop”. And before we leave the topic of sleepy bunnies, here’s a non-flop of Patton. This is what happens when you want to sit up and stretch out but not flop. Then you start getting drowsy. And drowsier. And pretty soon you can’t hold your head up anymore. But it’s too late to flop because you no longer have the energy to flop.

Laughing my a** off = LMAO. I love these blankies Sarah! That one was originally Lilo’s, I swapped for pre-bonding, Pepper then marked it by pooping all over it, now Lilo doesn’t want it back.The bf told me she gave him a (well deserved) nip after. Definitely was not impressed ?.

Also, I think Reese has ballet feet/twinkle toes! Very cute when they’re all stretched out like that in the litterbox. Wascally Wabbit, I’m pretty sure I have the exact same haybox as you in the photo. I got mine from Etsy. It’s sitting the cupboard doing nothing because Crysta liked to climb inside and use it as a litterbox!!

Only sometimes nowadays, not as much as I used to at uni. I do read a lot of English fantasy books. Am I a bit out of practice? It’s okay if people have some hints, makes my language better

I mostly use Dutch but also English on occasion. It’s everywhere: my textbooks, my fantasy books, my favourite films, and of course the internet fora which I frequent. I prefer my books in English because they’re usually written by English speakers, and so much is lost in the process. Take those brilliant Pratchett books for instance: all the word jokes are lost if you translate them. The Italians have a very true saying about it: “traduttore, traditore”, or “translator, traitor”.
English is gaining ground here in NL, especially with young people. Commercials are often in English nowadays. Sometimes we even talk in English among friends because we’re all university graduates. At our local university everything is in English and some people don’t even know the Dutch words for things in their field of work. We also get many international students. Our written English is usually quite good, but our accent is horrible, cringe-worthy and toe-curling.
The Dutch do have a reputation for languages: it’s a small country which focuses on export. We export produce (cheese, flowers etc.) and also specialised knowledge (we’re the water people, up to your knees in water? call us!). You cannot get an educated job if you don’t speak English. In my city which is on the border with Germany you can’t get a simple job in a shop without speaking English and German. I swear: the Dutch would learn how to bark or meow if that would increase our chances at making a good deal.
Our school system also focuses on languages: English is taught before kids reach the age of 10, and some schools advertise that they start teaching it from age 4. In the Dutch high school system kids are sorted by IQ and other capability tests, and the pre-university stream is called VWO. The VWO splits into two streams: Atheneum which focuses on science and Gymnasium which focuses on language. Gymnasium kids get 6 languages: Dutch, English, German, French, Latin and ancient Greek. If you’re in Gymnasium but are still into science, you can go double. Half of our class, including me, did that and we graduated in 17 subjects. Nerd alert!

A friend of mine who is an ex-business lady herself said, “watch him, the dutch would sell their own mother if they had to” !!!! LOL
and oh boy, he would have !!But one of my best friends is dutch (in London) + Ellie & Bas fighting in the ‘orange corner’, so I have a balanced opinion !!!

What a cute little fluffy skirt! When I went outside today, I brought my Algebra 1 homework out and Eevie ate it and got mud all over it so I had to do it again
. After she ruined it, I just gave up and played a basketball game called “Pig” with my best friend neighbor. We took off out coats and played in 38 degree (farenheit), wet, muddy weather in in out t-shirts and soggy shoes. We ended up enlongating our game to “Pigletsalotsarecool” so the game would take longer and by the time I came in to feed Reesers, my hands were numb and I could hardly move my fingers at all. I consider this afternoon seized! except the fact that I still have homework to do…All of this will make sense if you know what the game “Pig” is, but of you don’t, you wont.

JP yes that’s a definite smile however that’s a similar xpen to the one I have and my buns pull and push it violently into unrecognisable shapes so I have to tie packs of water and lead weights to the outside with cable ties so it doesn’t move as much….. makes for interesting interior decoration.

Her people opened an animal sanctuary for farm animals called “Happily Ever Esther” with money from a GoFundMe page. Pretty amazing story. There is a book about her, it’s really good.

Yes when we found her, her neck was actually feathered completely with dark grey fuzz (see image below, a few days after I brought her home). I assumed she’d plucked her main neck feathers in her previous home or after she escaped. After she came to us, over the period of a few months she plucked out most of the grey fuzz to be left with bare skin which was often red and sore looking when she’d recently been plucking. Since she already had a plucking issue it wasn’t terribly surprising but I had been hoping to avoid it since it’s harder to reverse. Plucking is usually associated with boredom, but also loneliness, stress, hormonal issues with no outlet etc. Since she came to us starved and dehydrated, then was stressed by our presence, and it took us a while to establish a routine, get her diet figured out, get her used to us, be able to let her out of her cage or reach into her cage etc. I wasn’t terribly surprised when I noticed it happening. The problem with plucking is that the feathers growing back in are irritating and itchy which is when it can easily become habit, rather than just out of boredom etc. Add on to that the fact that if feathers are plucked enough from the same area, the follicle can become damaged preventing feather regrowth.Long story short, I’ve been trying really hard to fill her cage with toys and fresh branches with leaves, rearrange it reasonably often, let her out of her cage as often as possible and give her stimulation to prevent as much plucking as possible. The quicker we get on top of it, the easier it will be to stop her from doing it. Fortunately, if you compare the two images of her, you can see that she hasn’t extended her range of plucking (those red feathers at the top of her breast are still there), which is a positive. And I hope I’m not getting excited about her seemingly reduced plucking too soon, but I’m hopeful

Im temporarily back home, so my rabbits have reclaimed “their ” room
Yumi and Sampras have a new love for their radiator bed..which is simply the best thing they have right now!
Yumi likes to wear her toys like a tiara (because of the princess that she is)
And Sampras decided that watching people out the window is a great way to pass the time

I think I have super well behaved buns. My theory is that after being in a small cage in their foster home, that they just enjoy the space they have. No inclination to pull on the cage bars or bars of the x-pen, no digging to get out by the door etc. Just a special little pair of adorabuns

Why this little tinker insists on squeezing himself into this corner to lounge on a tile floor when he has the other half of his pen covered in a huge cosy blanket, and a bed and hideyholes to lie in (not to mention the whole kitchen as his door is open) I’ll never understand

It’s true that buns prefer a hole with multiple exits. If we offer Breintje a box with one exit, be sure he’ll make one on the other side as well. He still tries to gnaw a second exit from his cage every now and then, always at the same spot. He can’t be discouraged even though it hasn’t worked for 2,5 years >.<
