albeit a verrry cute furry one… but a monster none-the-less! for those of you who’ve read my posts since i joined back in november you’ll already know that baby bun had a large lump sticking out of her belly that was surgically removed. this lump started out small & slowly grew. i monitored her behavior pretty closely and always thought it wasn’t causing her great pain. i knew rabbits hide pain very well, but figured since she was eating & pooping & grooming herself, as well as continuing her digging, ripping & jumping activities with gusto that she was ok.
i’ve had a great fear of taking her to see a vet (long story) but it had gotten to the point where i had to do something as the skin had begun to look sore… poor thing. then i found a rabbit savvy vet through a friend’s reccomendation and she sailed through her surgery & recovery. since then when i bring her to the living room she started to actually stay for a bit to hang out with the dog & i. before she had always run back to her room wilst flicking her thumpers at me for the HUGE inconveniance of having put her there. lol. i loved having her there & the dog was pretty amused too. she stayed for longer & longer lengths of time until i had to ‘put her to bed’ when i was going to bed. so cute.
now she’s actually running out to the living room on her own. she started doing this around supper time – a little ahead of when i’d go to bring her out of her room – and this week she’s even come out to visit while i’m working in the middle of the day! bear in mind that up until now she’s had every opportunity to come out of her room as the door is always open (i live in a small bungalow and i can see her in her room from the kitchen) she just has never before taken it!
i just recently stopped putting up the baby gate to block off the lving room from the dog and now i’m going to have to resurrect it for the bun while i’m sleeping / out & about! i can no longer trust her with free run of the house now that she is actually running free (my living room is also where i work & it’s just easier to only allow supervised play here rather than to try to rabbit-proof it). what a little wascally wabbit!
