Hi!  I did read the forum post saying this site advocates indoor rabbit living, but please don’t just discard my thread right away!  I also advocate for this and it makes me feel really sad to think of a rabbit spending his life outside in a cage.  Thing is, it’s not a question for me, but rather someone I’ve come upon who has a rabbit outside living.  Apparently there is a coyote that prowls the area.  I obviously can not do anything but suggest bringing the rabbit indoors .  But if they do not do this, I want to do my best to help.  Does anyone here have any ideas?  I looked up articles that mentioned some basic things like, it should be hard wire/wood instead of chicken wire, raised off the ground, lock on hutch door.  But does anyone know if sort of coyote repellents would be ok/safe for a bunny habit to have sprayed near?  Because I thought i could send some to them in that case.  Thanks I am just trying to help this bun!

A coyote will be able to get into the cage, no matter what you do to prevent it. It’s best to bring the bunny inside so it won’t have a painful demise. See if you can offer to take the bunny into your own care if you are close to them. No repellent would be safe around buns( with my little research). I suggest you get in contact with a rabbit savvy vet to have them email you a list of reasons why a bunny needs to be kept inside and then send it to the person. Do you know why the person won’t bring it inside?

Keep us updated. Hopefully you can get something figured out for it.

This is making me so sad   I know about this bunny situation only from a post of someone on the internet elsewhere.  But even then it is only that person’s neighbor and not then.  I mentioned I’d take the bunny in my care if their neighbor doesn’t want it.  I’m so sad for this bunny right now, I don’t know how to help

thank you for your idea about the vet.  maybe i can call the vet in my city today and request if there’s a list.  or do you know of anyone here who might have a good reputable list.  because i imagine the vet will just say look it up online.  anyone here have a good go-to article?  i don’t know why the neighbor won’t take them in.  but i know the poster already let her know the coyote is near by

On house rabbit society, there is aList of vets, I think even on here there is a list somewhere. You can have the Neighboor call the police and say there person is neglecting their animal outside without proper housing and they will talk to them and even take the animal away and take it to a shelter if needed. I know that isn’t a good suggestion but if you really care about the bun, it wouldn’t hurt. I called the police many time about this person who chained their dog to a tree infront of their home, right out the animal shelter I volunteered at when it was over 100f outside

thank you.  I wrote them back again today.  they are also planning to talk to their neighbor again today.  I mentioned both about the vet providing reasons, and also that there’s the option to call animal shelter or police, both good pieces of advice.  it sounds like  the neighbor has this bunny on the mind and is not just writing it off as “not my problem”.  im really happy to know the neighbor is looking out right now.  i feel so worried for this bun

A little bit of good news.  The poster’s neighbor was receptive to at least looking in to making the hutch more secure.  They went out and purchased a lock for the door as was suggested in a few articles.  So it seems like they are open to making things more secure.  If anyone here has ideas of advice given that, I would be so greatly appreciative.  This rabbit is on my mind every day.
