We got some oat hay for Ragnar since she’s pickier about her hay, but like 90% of the oat hay is a gold/light yellow, more of a straw color than hay. Does that mean it’s less nutritious or is it just coloring?

It’s difficult to compare colors when you’re looking at different types of hay. Oat hay tends to be more on the yellow side. That’s just the way it is. This isn’t necessarily true for other types of hay, where it tends to be more green and yellowing suggests sun bleaching.

Alright, thank you very much. I wanted to make sure it was okay to give her. She only likes thicker/more stiff hay and won’t eat timothy hay. Is it okay to feed her just oat hay?

Yes, it’s fine to feed all the time.

Yes, oat hay is a grass hay, it’s fine to feed all the time. It’s my rabbit’s favorite hay, and I’ve heard it’s one of the only readily available types of rabbit hay in Australia.

Hay that’s been out in the sun accumulate more vit D, so it’s not considered “bad” by horse-owners. (Horses and bunnies have very similar nutritional needs).

That said, hay from different grasses have different coloring, as everybody has said =)

Bunnies can be so picky about hay =/
