Hi everyone! My sister sent me the following recipe for home made cookies for my rabbits, and I was wondering if they were safe.

        Ingredients:
        -1 tsp of honey
        -1/4 cup of pumpkin
-1/4 cup of ground up pellets
        -1/4 cup of ground oats

        Directions:
        – mix all ingredients throughouly until a dough is formed
        – roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut into small shapes
        – bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes
        – turn off oven, and let dry in warm oven for 1 hour

I know that if these are safe, then these are definitely to be fed in moderation, just a little at a time.

I’d say they’re safe if fed in moderation. Use plain canned pumpkin, not pie filling. Pumpkin is bunny safe and has good fiber. Oats are generally tolerated well by buns and buns tend to love them. Honey is of course nothing rabbits need. I think they’d be happy for the treats even with just half the amount of honey, but its still mostly about how much of the treats you’d feed them and how often.

It sounds like a yummy recipe for buns and a lot better than most pet store treats.

Yes, for sure. I used to make this recipe quite often and my buns loved it. Same ingredients but carrot instead of pumpkin.

Yes they’re completely safe, of course don’t feed too much though! Magpie will do pretty much anything for these!
