Is it normal for a bunny’s activity level to change when a new bunny is in the house?

Merry generally just sleeps during the day, but now that she’s in a pen next to Banner she’s all over the place.  From what I can tell, he’s the one sleeping.

She is highly curious about that stranger bunny

I figured as much – but hey she needs the exercise anyway so it’s good! And it makes more interesting viewing than watching her sleep all day hidden in a box lol

Is she eating and pottying normally? Having a new bunny in the space can be a MAJOR STRESSOR to the existing bunny. If she seems very anxious and it’s affecting her negatively, you might try putting a piece of cardboard between their pens, so she can SMELL but not SEE. At least until you’re ready to get bonding underway. He isn’t neutered yet, right?

Oh, she’s acting normally otherwise – eating and potty habits. She doesn’t seem anxious, just curious. The only thing that’s not great is she’s pitching a fit at night when I put her into her pen. It’s a bit of a struggle, but then if I give her plenty of pets she calms down.

And you’re right, he’s not neutered yet, so we’re not bonding yet.

Oh and although she’s more active during the day, I have seen her flop down outside her hidey box on a blankie and sleep. That’s a good sign I think!

                  It is.
Once they are bonded, it’s been known to have the active bunny teach the more timid or laid back bunny new behaviors. Sometimes very naughty ones. So a gentle bunny can eventually get more frisky due to the influence of the other one.

Oy I hope he’s not going to teach her his latest thing which is bite my ankles and hold on for dear life. :/ So far nothing I’ve tried is helping that behavior *sigh*
