my rabbit was spayed yesterday, i fed her breakfast (1 tablespoon pellets) at 5am. i picked her up from the vet at 4pm. they asked me to bring food for her to eat after the surgery but wont give me an answer to whether she ate the veggies i brought with her or not. yesterday she didnt eat at all but drank water herself. she was very groggy and sat in the corner the whole time except for when she switched which corner to lay in or used the litterbox. her poops are very small and look soft, she hasnt pooped much but i read that would be normal. at around 7am this morning i got her to eat a few bites of lettuce and some grass. now at 11pm i got her to eat a small piece of lettuce again and grass. is this normal for the day after surgery? when did your rabbits get back to normal after being spayed? the vet wouldnt give me pain medicine for her, they said she wouldn’t need it. is it okay to keep feeding her grass? it seems like thats the one thing she seems interested in eating. her eyes have also been barely open since i brought her back but im assuming that’s okay. and how did you guys check your rabbits stitches? im afraid to pick her up and hurt her.

Keep feeding grass if that’s what she wants. You should also syringe feed some pellet mush before you go to bed tonight, if she hasn’t started eating properly by then.

As I wrote in your other thread, I think you should try and get pain medication for her. That she was groggy and unwilling to eat yesterday was probably due to the pain meds she’d been given before you took her home, probably buprenorphin or sth like that. That should have worn off by now though.

I had my girl bun spayed in November last year, She started to eat some things about an hour after we came home, but I still syringed her food once before bedtime. I got 5 days worth of meloxicam for her. I asked another person to hold her so I could check her incision. This is how it looked the day after the spay:

i called them earlier and now they’re saying they dont have any pain medicine that would be safe for rabbits. i’ll call again and ask if they have metacam but im assuming they dont.

i checked her incision and it looks like it has some scabs is that normal? im trying to add a picture on here but it isnt working. if she doesnt eat on her own by tonight i’ll syringe feed her. how much did you give your rabbit daily?
