Hello! Sorry to ask (since I know you guys have gotten a lot of similar eye questions over the years), but I haven’t been able to track down an answer for this particular situation!

My rabbit Leila gets eye crusties (“sleep”) in the corners of her eyes pretty much every day. This seems normal for her. I gently take them out with my fingers. I think I may have irritated one of her eyes by pulling too hard on a matted piece at the corner, though? Or maybe these crusties were never normal to begin with.

They’re always small, dry and whiteish in color. Leila was kind enough to let me take a photo (attached). You can see how the crust is kind of matted in her fur.

Do anyone else’s rabbit’s “sleep” crusties look like this? Leila was just at the vet two weeks ago, and the doc gave her a clean bill of health. I’m hesitant to go back so soon, both for Leila’s stress levels and my own…but if this doesn’t look normal, I’ll make an appointment.

        .

P.S. She’s otherwise behaving normally, running circles in her sandbox and chomping on hay and pellets.

Looks normal to me. I’ve noticed that they seem to occur more often as bunnies age too.

Especially young rabbits (and dogs) can get eye boogers. You could try to soften them with a damp, slightly warm compress if you’re afraid you’ll hurt her when you pick out the boogers.

I’d not rush her to the vet. The white of the eye and the rim don’t look red, there’s no wetness around the eyes or felted cheek hair like there would be if she had runny eyes.
