Hello, I recently moved apartments and I had to relocate both of my rabbits into my bedroom. They are not bonded yet, but they have been prebonding for the last month and they seem okay with one another. Maby (the white one) turns 4 months old soon and I am taking her to the vet to see if she is ready to be spayed, but I know I might have to wait until she is 6 months.

Until then, I have to keep them both in my bedroom with this x-pen. Once they are good and bonded I’ll remove the xpen and we will all live happily in my room together. But right now it just feels extremely cramped. Is this enough space for a rabbit? My plan is to allow one bunny to free roam the room (and hallway), while the other is in the cage, and switch them out every few hours.

I am used to them each having an entire bedroom to themselves, so this new arrangement just feels very cramped and I feel terrible.

What are your thoughts? Can I improve the space in any way?

          Hi,
I don’t see any pictures attached but as long as they have an xpen to themselves and get plenty of exercise time 3+ hours a day is recommended, then they should be fine until they are able to be bonded.

Sorry, the pictures didn’t seem to upload when I first posted but they should be there now.

I would say that is a decent space for a temporary situation. As long as they have a lot of exercise outside of the pen, they should be fine. You can also buy dog toys that are plastic balls and have holes for treats to fall out of when they roll it so you can put their pellets in there and that will make them busy for a while so they get exercise in their pen

I would recommend adding a clothe roof over at lease one of the pens so they don’t try and jump into the other’s cage and start a fight. Never underestimate a bunny’s ability to do parkour.

I think as long as they get a few hours at least out every day, this is a good temporary setup!

I agree. It’s a good temporary set up as long as they’re out and exercising about 4 hours a day.

It’s a good set up. Def agree with others about increasing the height of all ‘walls’… they’ll be jumping out of there in no time…

What would be a good material to cover the xpen with? It would have to be something I can easily remove because I have to step over the walls to get inside her cage. I’m not as concerned with Maby (the white bunny) being able to jump out, but Moby (the black bun) is older and his walls are shorter so he definitely might be able to.

You could just get a large piece of cloth like a blanket or something and clip the sides to the wires. Bunnies are visual jumpers so if they see there’s something covering the top they are not likely to jump.

I guess the logistical problem I have is that I need to cover the “cage” on the left side, but its not actually a cage since it is just the space formed by the x-pen on the right, which I attached a swinging door to. So I don’t really know how to cover that space since it is just a wall on the left side so I don’t know how I would attach something to that. The x-pen on the right is 30″ so I don’t think they will be able to jump in and out of that but I can still easily cover that with cloth if I need to.

When I cover my boys’ xpen I use a fitted bed sheet and then just secure it to the sides.
