Thinking these might be fun for the buns, all it says is natural wood. Are there any woods that aren’t safe for rabbits?

There are some woods that are toxic, but I don’t think any of the ones I can think of would be used to make those blocks: certain fruit tree branches, non-kiln dried pine, plywood, and I can’t remember if oak is ok or not or if it’s just red oak that is not ok.

Just had a google and the same product came up on Tesco.com and in the item description it says beechwood. I’m sure I’ve seen somewhere that this is unsafe. Although others might be able to say otherwise on that. They do look good though. I’ve thought about letting my two play with my children’s old wooden blocks but they are coloured and I think it’s too risky if they chew those types

Thanks for the input guys, hopefully we’ll get some more opinions. Eddyw, I looked at colourful blocks too but thought these might be safer.

I want to get them plastic lego blocks too (big ones, for little kids) to knock down

This site says that beech wood is unsafe for rabbits:

                  http://bunnyproof.com/what-types-of-wood-can-rabbits-chew-on

Although I’m sure this is referring to fresh beech wood, if they are using this for children’s toys it may be treated in some way (like oven dried) that might get rid of toxins?

This is a site I saw today about safe/unsafe woods. Also just come across someone who has posted this same one in the forum today too

I’ve emailed the seller to query whether the wood has been treated. Hopefully hear back soon!

If beechwood is on the toxic list, I wouldn’t be using them. Look for something made of pine, or just get a length of pine from the hardware store and cut some blocks off of it to different sizes

Okey dokey, I’ll avoid unless the seller tells me the wood is pine. Thanks everyone

                            OK – so I got confused…..

Az told me (in my willow post from a while back, which I’ve just gone back and checked) that BIRCH is safe for bunnies….

You’ve got to give me soooome credit for memory – It begins with the same letter and has 5 letters in it !

So BIRCH IS ok !!!! NOT beech. My mistake. Apologies for any confusion.

I thought beech was safe also. On the medirabbit site, it shows a pic of rabbits eating beech leaves and twigs they were given. Then lists safe trees and shrubs and doesn’t list beech.
btw, I stumbled on a beech/birch joke just now and was all set to copy it here…until I read the punchline. Lol. Maybe not PG enough for the BB forum.

The seller got back to me but didn’t actually specify the wood altho they said it isn’t treated and it’s safe for children so assume it’s okay for buns. I’m going to leave it tho as I can’t be sure. Such a shame!

It looks like beech. I’ve given my buns fresh beech leaves in early spring, when they’re soft and very light green and humans can eat them. I’ve seen wild rabbits nibble on beech saplings in the spring.
