Is this arrangement gonna be okay?

Is it okay to reduce the size of Hercules cage to still an acceptable size and fit in another one next to it? Is it ok to house the other rabbit in a space he normally is in? His cage is an expen so I can remove parts of it and construct another one next to it until they are fully bonded and then I merge the two? It will be okay if the other rabbits cage is next to his where his used to be? I’m not getting another rabbit that soon, nor am I sure my parents will allow, but I know a way to tell them why. I just need to know if that arrange meant would be okay.

What is his current size area? Let me make sure I understand you correctly – you have 1 size available, and you want to arrange the one size to split in two for 2 rabbits?

I’ve currently got a recently bonded pair and a single bun, who I think is sister to the bonded girl. Its clear that bonding them as a trio is going to be a long tricky bond. Gina is in a 4’x2’x2′ size bought cage, it is way too small for her to live any amount of time in (I caught the two girls running wild and any cage was better than none). The bonded pair had over 90% of the dining area til yesterday, when I added a run to Gina’s cage, giving her quite a bit more space, and them less. The dining room is around 100 square feet, so they still have plenty of space left, esp given everybunny gets floor time twice a day, when they can use the living room, stairs and landing.

This did however leave Jenny, the bonded girl, so cross, she refused to speak to me until the next day, and was still annoyed for most of the second day.

So yes, a big enough space can be divided, and yes, you can expect the current owner of the space to be pretty annoyed with you.

There is another consideration, and that is will the buns be able to bite each other through the xpen walls? One reason Gina had to be kept in the cage for the first few weeks we had her, is that she tried to bite and claw everybunny else. She has now calmed down to just hair trimming nips, which is why I’ve been able to add the run to her cage. The run bars are wider spaced than the cage bars, and if I’d added it a week ago, there could well have been blood drawn, making a successful bonding between the trio harder to impossible.

Splitting in half is fine for a bonding area as long as it is neutral. But I’m in the same boat. I’m trying to bond a pair in a small area, and I’m on a week or so of not separating them, and I don’t want to separate them. But he is stressed in the small area. She doesn’t really mind, she just poops everywhere. In a larger area she would use her litter box properly. But he is super mad at me for putting him in a small area. So he hops out every chance he gets. I need to put a lid on it. I swear he scales the NIC cubes. 28 inches is too short for him, and he is a small little 5lb lop. So definitely keep the cages about 6 inches apart so they can’t fight through them. Long term in a small area might prove stressful. And who knows how long bonding may take..

His cage is 30 square feet so if I split it up it would be 15 and 15.

My current rabbit can fit his mouth in through the bars so I will space them 4 or 5 inches apart.

I would space it at least 6 inches.
That space seems decent. I assume they get out for exercise time. I would consider it feasible to let them sleep in that area, and then bring them out for exercise. On a short term basis. My boy is great with his litter box. My girl will poop everywhere if her sleeping space is not at least 32 square feet. How big are your buns? I wouldn’t want to keep mine in that space for ever. But different buns adapt to different sleeping areas. Some people use rabbit condos that I wouldn’t use. I split a bedroom in two for my buns. I took out all the human furniture so it is entirely theirs (and the cats).

My current bun is about 4 pounds and he is fairly small. The other one I want to get will be the same size.
