So, my bun LOVES to nibble/shred on paper.  Every time he comes across some, he must chew it.

I have a little mini spiral notebook that would be perfect as a toy for in his cage.  Would it be safe?  The only problem I see with it is the metal spiral, and the plastic cover.  Would he hurt his teeth on the metal, or accidentally eat the plastic cover?  Or would it be a safe toy for him to rip and shred to his little bunny heart’s content?

If you have a phonebook that would probably be better than the notepad, unless you just tear the sheets out. The plastic cover makes me a little nervous. Most phone books are made with soy based inks that are safe to eat. You could use many other kinds of paper; newsprint, tp/paper towel rolls, cardboard, an occasional cereal box, etc.

I could remove the plastic cover if you think it could be a problem.  He doesn’t like cardboard, cereal boxes, or TP rolls.  He specifically likes thin paper, weird bun!

Make sure the ends of the wire spiral aren’t sticking out or sharp in any way, just to make sure he couldn’t catch himself on it. If you remove the cover I think it would be ok. Still watch him with it just in case. If he likes thin paper he might really go for a phone book or newsprint.

I would not give him a spiral notebook with the metal “spiral” attached. Your bun may start to nibble on that part and get it stuck on his long incisor teeth. If he panics, that would not be good and could result in damage to his teeth.

Yikes, I didn’t think of that!  Definitely will pass on it then.  Thanks for the info, I don’t know what I’d do without this board to learn from!

you could always take the spiral out and tye the sheets together with sisal string or something.

Or keep your notebook and get sheets of paper or cut up newspaper, hole punch it all with a three-ring hole punch and then thread it with sisal rope like Moonlight said.

Or just use the phone book! Less work for you that way! I just rip off the front and back glossy covers so they only have the actual paper to dig and chew on.

I don’t have an extra phonebook I wish I did
