I haven’t had my netherland dwarf for so long, he is just a baby about 2 months old. He is not at the age to be neutered yet..But he seems like he may enjoy a companion alot more because he doesn’t do much but lay around…he is not as active as before because I limited his space since he started eating everything off the floor and also because he has a cold or allergy which he is going to be treated for on Friday

ANYWAYS my cousin tells me his friend is looking to ‘get rid’ of her lionhead dwarf which is 9 months old, also male, and not neutered. I was thinking of taking him in since I always wanted a lionhead dwarf! But I am not going to take him in if he is not neutered and not sure if I can afford the neutering at this time anyway.

Do you guys think this would be a bad idea altogether because of the age difference and same sexes or different breeds?? Mostly I am worried because one will be neutered and the other will not be…I am not sure when my Bricey will be ready to be neutered when he becomes sexually mature. I intend to get the lionhead neutered right away if I could..

What are some of your experiences?? Thanks in advance for your help!

It is really best to have your bunny neutered first and it’s also a better idea to let your rabbit pick their own companion if possible.

If you cannot afford to get both neutered anyway then you will be in over your head. You are taking on another expense, so you need consider your finances.

Thanks for the input..I was just about to edit my posting. I don’t think I will get the lionhead dwarf since it is too costly to pay for his neutering and possible other medical problems..I am thinking of taking my bunny Bricey to a rabbit adoption place and let him pick his companion instead. It will also save me money because the companion will already be neutered or spayed and adoption fee is not as steep as neutering fee T_T.

Although I really want to get a companion for my rabbit now because he seems so lonely most of the day! He seems to get bored quickly and I try to be creative with giving him mental stimulation

Definitely get your bun “squared away” first. He’s still so young, and there’s really no rush to get him a companion. Enjoy your time with him and bond with him before adopting a second. Chances are he is not lonely, he is content.

Oh, watching a baby grow into an adult.. is a treasure. You get to see their personality I highly doubt that your bunny is lonely.

Rabbits are sleepy and laid back during the day, as it is their time to snooze. It works well with people that have to work or go to school during teh day.

My year old bunny Gabby is really lazy during the day too. She has a few hidey spots she’ll go stretch out on and rest a lot.

All rabbits lay around a lot – they are like cats in that way. My male sleeps for a few hours, runs around a little, sleeps, runs around, sleeps… and with an allergy, he most likely doesn’t feel his best. Get your bun neutered and let him heal up and get his hormones settled (about a month), then take him on bunny speed dating if you want a companion for him. But wait until you have a little savings away, in my opinion, as rabbits can get sick and their vet bills can get very high… a lot of people I know take a few dollars out of every paycheck and put it away, or on a charge-card and have it as their “vet fund”, easier to say goodbye to one cup of coffee out a week than $500 the day your pet gets sick.

Stickerbunny, that is how I describe my bunny to people! “My rabbit is like a cat, but she eats hay and veggies! She is really lazy.”

I have a vet fund. It is such a great idea to have one. I don’t make a whole lot of money, but I get paid weekly, and put a few dollars to $5 a week into a small safe piggy bank my dad gave to me. I kept my tips from my old job in the safe. It is all for Chacha
