Lately she’s been worrying me and also getting on my nerves, she’s an adult lionhead named Kiwi,
I know it’s probably a dumb thing to be worried about but all she seems to care about lately is food and eating. She acts like she’s ALWAYS starving and hasn’t eaten in months. She doesn’t spend anytime with me anymore, once she realizes I don’t have food for her she leaves. If i try to spend time with her I get ignored while she sniffs around searching for food ALL day.
I feed her 1 and a half cup of veggies, 2 tablespoons of pellets, unlimited hay and water along with a snack of herbs or fruit every once in a while.
I’ve been having to overfeed her lately because if I don’t? She goes out and tries to eat stuff that WILL kill her if she keeps this up. I’ve separated her meals into a bunch of tiny ones now because if I don’t she’s out eating the carpet, cardboard, trying to eat metal, my clothes, plastic, etc. She’s already consumed an alarming amount of carpet and cardboard and I’m afraid it’s going to hurt her, for now she’s going to be locked up in her cage and I feel really bad because she’s a very energetic bunny. I’ve been giving her papaya and some high fibre veggies and herbs so she can get all the stuff she’s eaten out of her system faster. Any other info or advice is appreciated, thanks.

Her diet sounds good (assuming she is about 4-5lbs?). It’s normal for buns to act as if they are starving all the time

The chewing on household items is concerning though, and I’m sure very annoying for you! Has she been spayed? Often destructive behaviors and being standoffish are down to hormones.

What is her environment like? If she is free roam and getting into all that stuff maybe you could use a large puppy x-pen as an enclosure while you are not around to supervise? That way her area can be totally bunny-proofed so there is nothing for her to get into.

I hope you don’t mean locked up in her cage 24 hours a day until this gets resolved, because locking her up in her cage is only going to make her resent you. It’s not really a good punishment tactic and can often times make the initial problems worse. I agree with Thor, is she spayed? Because her behavior seems very typical of a hormonal bunny. A large puppy pen would also be much better than just keeping her in a cage. It’ll give her a good amount of space that you can supervise in.

Hi! I agree that a pen or barricade of some sort would be better than keeping her in her cage. While it is good that you are trying to keep her safe from ingesting foreign things, keeping her in her cage without letting her out will actually make her behavior worse because it will contribute to boredom and potential health issues.
