Is there something wrong or is she just old?

Maddie has been peeing outside of her litter pan a lot lately. She has always sometimes peed outside of it but not nearly as much as she is now. She doesnt even get up to pee sometimes. I saw her laying down, all stretched out and she just peed like that. While I was brushing her she peed on me. She pees outside of the litter pan a few times a day. So is she just getting old? Shes around 9 years. Or is there something wrong. I have read that peeing outside the litter pan can mean a bladder infection. Could that be it? What else could it be?

It does sound like some incontinence. Bladder infections can certainly contribute to that. Bladder sludge too. Also mobililties issues. Arthritis, hind limb weakness etc.

I definitely recommend a vet visit- there are many reasons that could cause this and many of those reasons are treatable.

Yes I definitely recommend bring her into the vet. She kind of sounds like my Gracie who (what the vet said) had E.C. and the effects were like a hind limb paralysis. So she can hop around but she doesn’t have much feeling back there which causes her to pee without her knowing it, sometimes sitting in it. She’s older too. I hope the vet can find an answer and it’s an easy fix! Let us know.

A while ago I brought her in and the vet said her kidney values were off and it could be the start of kidney disease. We think that its getting worse. She drinks a ton, pees a ton etc. I got her antibiotics in case its caused by an infection. And I think she pees on my floor because she is losing mobility in her back legs and she just pees a lot and doesnt want to get up every time she has to pee. I did add a couple more litter pans and one of them is cut down so she doesnt have to jump to get in it.

You may want to line her area with absorbent towels,t hat are easily tossed in the laundry. So she doesn’t have to walk through puddles. Poor bun, hope it doesn’t get too uncomfortable for her!

She has free range of my room but I have though about putting a big blanket in the area she likes to pee/lay in the most.
And I forgot to add she does have urine scald. Its not reall bad but it could get bad. How can I prevent it from getting worse?

Ask the vet to give you some silvadene cream for the scald. It will be hard to keep if from getting worse if she is not using her litter box and urinating on herself but you can help with the chafing by applying silvadene.

My rabbits are all over 8 years old as well except Bobby and a few have various issues including arthritis and urinary tract infections so I know where you are coming from.

Yes silvadene works wonders, I use that with Gracie and also if she pees on herself, try to rinse her off really quick so you get it off of her. Good luck, I hope she’s ok!

You can prevent it from getting worse by ensuring she’s kept dry and clean. I found for my bunnies incontinence that towels over puppy pee pads worked like a charm. There is no need for free run if she is losing mobility so I would use cubes to make a small enclosure, cover the floor with puppy pads and towels. This is not a week long coverage-you will need to change the bedding twice a day at minimum. If you buy the biggest box of puppy pads your only looking at 15$ or so dollars a week (for me in 1/2 a bedrom) in pads, and a load of towels a day if you have a big washer. It’s a lot of work but it will keep her comfortable-even the elderly don’t like to be dirty

So I didn’t read right-was the kidney values up in the past or now when you brought her in for incontinence? I just couldn’t clearly tell if she’s been seen in the past day or two for this issue, or if this was something found in the past?
