I picked up a Willow ball today, and I can’t tell if Honeygirl is eating it, or just nibbling.

If she did injest, is it okay?

Yes – my bunnies eat willow endlessly Willow is safe to be ingested by bunnies as long as the willow isn’t treated with any kind of paint or solvent or anything like that. If you purchase willow items that are specially intended for bunnies you can be sure that they are untreated, you have to be more careful if you are purchasing willow baskets or other items that are intended for household use. Both the peeled willow (without the bark) and the unpeeled are OK.

oh great, thanks! I got a ball from my local HRS, so I know it is safe otherwise. I just didn’t know if it was intended to be eaten.

            thanks for the quick response.

I’d bet anything sold by the HRS or any reputable rabbit store (like BB etc. ) is safe for total consumption willow is a rabbit fav for sure

haha, I just worry because she finds lots of things tastey that she shouldn’t, ie. string on rugs, carpet, my HAIR haha, carefresh litter, etc. so I steadly change around things in her cage until she stops eating it.

sometimes i think shes part goat.

the willow is a great distractor. i always keep some spare ones around (i like the candy canes and willow stars b/c they’re really cheap!) and if they start chewing something they’re not supposed to, i can whip out a new willow toy and it distracts them for quite awhile… i think the new ones are more intriguing… maybe b/c it doesn’t smell like them yet?
