ive taken my bunnies off everyday pellets, their getting 1 cup of pellets every 2 days. hershey is perfectly fine, happier and seems healthier actally and twix is like turned into a monster! she jumps at the cage door when i walk in, and when i give her her pellets their gone in 20 mins! shes eating her hay and veggies, but she always wants pellets. it seems like she’s going through pellet withdrawl... i talked to the previous owner who apperently went through the same thing with her, it got to the point where twix would box her untill she gave her pellets, it got to the point where the old owner was giving her like 4 bowls a day. is it possibleshes addicted?? how do i get her to calm down with the pellets? HELP!

im currentlt giving pellets every other day aswell as a treat for good behavior (only 1 or 2 pellets for treats)

I would recommend a set feeding schedule of pellets- either once- or in this case it might be best to feed twice a day- but small amounts.  I have stopped using bowls for my adult bunnies and they get their Tablespoon of pellets scattered on their blanket- so they have to “forage” for them and it takes them longer to eat since they are not contained in a tidy little bowl.

            How old are your rabbits?

A small amount daily would be better than a large amount every 2 days. First of all, it’s easy to forget when it’s an “every other day” thing. If Twix is still young, she can have a larger portion and as she gets older, reduce the amount to no more than 1/4 cup per day. Are they both eating plenty of hay and veggies?

I’d change it to every day, very small amounts. that way you wont forget them. I know how easy it is to forget something if it isnt done every day!

I’m cutting down on the pellets. She loves them too much and has gotten fat. My vet was concerned and kept giving me the accusing look. It’s not THAT bad however, but it’s very difficult to deny her her pellets. She isn’t exercising either since I never let her out, because my previous rabbit gnawed on every cable available, and made me kind of oversensitive to accidents, as I realise now. But she deserves to be outside, so I’ll let her some time.

I think a lot of bunnies go crazy for pellets. I scatter feed 4 tablespoons between my two and they gobble them up pretty quickly. Although I’m transitioning them onto adult pellets and they’re not as enthusiastic. Still go pretty mental tho.

Oh and it’s very possible that she’s learned that behaving like that = more pellets. Especially if she was given upto 4 bowls a day after acting a little crazy.

Rabbitman, this is an old thread. We ask members to not revive old threads, but rather start new threads on the same topics.

I agree with Sarah about the pellets. Most rabbits are addicted to pellets (and food in general).

As for cable-chewing, there are cable covers. You can get them online or at f ex IKEA. I use Ikea’s RABALDER. A bun can chew through them, but it takes a little time.

I’m locking this thread, but again, please start a new one if you like!
